Army Men: the RPG

Yes, IK is making another RPG. A mod should un-sticky the Estrus one, im supporting this one exclusively.

INTRODUCTION:
You awaken and find 23 of your buddies in a thin, clear plastic bag. You look around even more, and you find hundreds of other bags, full of other army men, ready and willing to fight. You dont get time to do the math, as you are quickly freed by the commander, and lined up on a well-defended queen-sized bed, awaiting orders.

BASICS:
Your job: destroy or capture anything that doesnt have your color. your goal: to take over the enemy Commander's HQ and gain full military power over the house.
The battefield itself is a nicely sized 2-story home housing 4: The Green Army's commander, whose room is in the attic, the Tan Army's commander, whose room is in the basement, and their two parents.
There are only two armies in this war; Green and Tan. There are no other factions. You can take one of of the following duties (made a nice little hierarchy for ya):
Generals: Gets and acts upon all the intel from the Commander and/or forces under him. If there are multiple generals, they must specialize in a certain armed division or field, they cannot share duties. Never leaves the main base. Gets put on a leash and walked and whipped if captured. you know the deal.
Colonels: leads the battalions into battle. Colonels are in the field, but arent always on the front lines. Colonels can share duties (provided theyre both under the same general)
Seargents and below: the obvious. kills and get killed. See the battles first hand, blah blah blah.

Back to the house occupant bit, realize that the house isnt abandoned. If you/your General decides to paintball an entire room, the parents of the commander's will know about it, and will put a quick end to your war efforts. Game over. On to the next chapter. The point is, be bold, but dont leave a trace. only exception are the commander's room themselves, as they are already messy beyond hope. So what's a few scorch marks here and there?

WEAPONRY AND TECH:
If you can't find it in a store or hobby shop, don't bother trying to use it.
Your plastic weapons dont really have much effect on anything else besides other plastic things. i.e your bazooka wont keep a well aimed paper clip from killing you. More on this later.
Note for Colonels and above: There isnt really much of a limit to how many plastic-based vehicles you can have deployed
Your army's ultimate weapons are gadgets, where common household items and/or larger toys are used against the enemy. They cannot be anything that doesnt have an obvious construction (obvious being duct tape, rubber bands, glue, etc); the items involved cannot have enhanced attributes (a laser pointer or flashlight taped to a ceiling fan is NOT an ion cannon. If anything, it'll blind anyone who looks at the light. )

GAMEPLAY:
YOU ARE NOT A ONE-MAN ARMY. Your commanders have spent a couple paychecks just on plastic men, and they all are just as skilled as you are. You might end up with multiple kills on your lonesome, but don't expect to successfully take over a room by yourself. Much the less the room where the Commander's HQ is.
On that same note, you get no enhanced abilities,"speshul powas",nothing. NONE. You are already proficient with all weapon systems. What else do you need? Sure, having a pet Super Duper Mega-Looper Screaming Death Dragon of Death is fun and all, but this isnt the RPG for it.
Now, just because you're a 2-inch tall plastic figure doesnt mean youre automatically easy pickings. Your character can only be killed by things which can deform or put a gash in soft plastic (extreme heat and/or pressure, kitchen knives, bullets, etc). You are pretty much invulnerable to everything else. So feel free to paradrop without a chute; you dont need it.

FINAL NOTES:
To give your imagination a jump-start, i've provided a little list of the kinds of armament and things to do as a plastic soldier:

Radio-Controlled [-insert weapon here-] Tanks
Bookbag/bottle/notebook/cardboard barricades
knocking heavy books off shelves onto tank divisions
Spread propaganda through ipods
rubber band launched artillery

---

Feel free to ask any questions so we can start this one as soon as possible.
Oh man, i just though of having a Lego based RPG just when I click submit. If that ends up being a better idea, i'll just change the rules up a bit.

I think the plastic army men are a better idea.

How are we going to do battles and stuff, like if your character gets killed are you out of the RPG, and are you the only one who decides if a character dies or not?

Wesforce
08-22-2005, 02:13 PM
Can we include plastic Warhammer 40k stuff too? :color1:

I'm thinking of Imperial Guard here, of course, with our melt-worthy lasguns and Emperor-Fanatiscism

ImageKlonoa
08-22-2005, 02:54 PM
wow, I havent thought about what happens after your character die (if they do) Maybe your fellow soldiers can take you back to HQ to get remolded or something. Or the enemy could change your colors and you join them.

Ill keep brainstorming if that proves to be a crappy idea.

No, I wont be the final word on if a character dies.

and Wes, i was planning to keep with the classic army men theme. But it may be possible to recruit one of those Warhammer figures if a Commander has one.

Is it possible to have a battle field medic, IK? Pwease? :p

Desolator12

Or, even better, find bits and pieces of WH40k equipment (Bitz) around and use 'em in the game...erm, AFTER you find out how to use 'em (Example- Auspec)

I'd like to participate in this... mainly because wes hasn't gotten the S0 RPG running again, erm, as far as I know.

We'll need a 'sheet description so we know what to provide for said RPG.

In case we want to start posting char profiles now, I've put up this profile sheet.
Owner: (duh.)
Name: (double duh.)
Rank (general, colonel, or seargeant.)
Specialty: (even though your char is pretty much good at everything, this is here so we know what roles your char will be performing most. Like being a medic.)
Personality: (possibly the only difference between you and your plastic brothers/sisters. Be specific so other players can accurately depict your char.)
Associates: (war buddies you might have.)

I realize that this is somewhat short of a char profile. This is because most of it is irrelevant (your background: you came from a injection mold. Your race: you all came from an injection mold, your all the same. appearance: the shape of the injection mold die you came from.)
--

Statalyzer
08-22-2005, 03:59 PM
Well, you should say what type of injection mold you have, or is that covered in specialty (like are you the guy with a mortar, or the guy running at the enemy with a bayonette over his head, etc)?

If you aren't the final word on deaths, how we will handle battles? In the Matrix RPG (my first and so far only one) we aren't divided into two separate teams so I haven't learned how player v player combat really works.

Okay now that IK has left me in charge... Bionic Arms allowed :color1:

Maybe...

Hmm, Lego could be a problem.

Maybe we should have Lego-men as an all-assimilating, freakish race coming in from the outside to destroy everything we conventional army men hold dear, like the Borg or something. Even when you blow them apart, they keep reassembling themselves and coming after you...

Or even better! The 'Replicators' from Stargate SG-1. They even look like they're made of Lego!

Desolator12

Owner: ME YOU FOOLS!
Name: Rupert Von Higginsquiggin III
Rank Seargant
Specialty: Long-Range Ordinance
Personality: Morbid and Unnerving... the kind of person who has seen flaming carcasses thrown over a long distance by a well-placed RPG
Associates: None... they all die to quick

Affiliation: Green

Random Fact: Likes pie

Statalyzer
09-06-2005, 04:15 PM
Owner: Statalyzer
Name: Lane Jensen
Rank: Colonel
Specialty: Reconnaisance, infiltration.
Personality: Usually the open, accomdating, type when hostitilies of war don't force him to be otherwise. Introspective and not close friends with anyone but able to engage in conversation with anyone. Has a high sense of respect and duty - completely unswerving in his dedication to what he believes in and what he knows has to be done.
Associates: Corporal Jeff Alton. He's been in Jensen's outfit ever since he was a buck private, and as well as being an ordinary soldier of the unit, he often acts as a brevet secretary on the fly, since the organizational staff doesn't participate in the scout missions and harassment raids. Both men trust each other unconditionally.
Affliation: TAN

Random facts:
-Full name is Langton Joseph Bennington Jensen, but nobody else knows it.
-Was a championship runner in sandbox track & field in high school.

Owner: Mistress Wesforcia - Part metal, part plastic. All Army-uh, person!
Allegiance: Green
Name: Justin Timberlake (Named by the owner's sister)
Rank Lieutenant
Specialty: Vehicles (Trucks mainly), Logistics, Light Machineguns
Personality: Despite his grizzled, lantern-jawed, barrel-chested appearance, 'JT' (as he likes to be known) has somehow developed the preening, self-consious, effete attitude of the disturbing babyfaced man-child he is named for. He is often found lacking in aggressiveness when faced with the enemy, and so his REMF post is much more agreeable to him. However, he is a serial womaniser, and always on the lookout - Even though he has never seen a 'female' army man. As such he is frightened and confused by his feelings, and often bullies his men. When backed into a corner, he's liable to completely flip out...
Associates: His Senior NCOs - The loyal and determined Sergeant-Major Brad Pitt, and the conniving, treacherous Master Sergeant Ben Affleck. Also, a ragged handful of unpainted Imperial Guardsmen figures to drive and man the three trucks and 4 jeeps. These poor, bewildered denizens are armed with notoriously underpowered lasguns and have been brainwashed into thinking the kid who owns them is the Immortal Emperor himself. Fanatically brave in their convictions; Mindlessly dumb in their application.

(Note: The Guardsmen are mainly here for comic relief, and will probably get horrifically killed)

Good job Wes; you're fired. Temporarily.

To Tolio and Des: Remember the "If you cant find it in a toy store or hobby shop" bit? Well RC cars of all kinda are in them, so feel free.

There will NOT be any outside factions! This is part of the reason the old Army Men game fell flat on its face; everyone wanted to be the leader of some super army (im guilty too, but oh well) Use of Legos could be a possibility, just not for a character base. Build bridges and barricades out of them or something.

It seems IK has acquired some of these brave plastic men of his own. Here are some pics of possible scenarios to be expected in this RPG:

Are we not picking yet whether we are tan or green? I guess the tan and green Commanders are two kids who are brothers?

My secondary character...

Owner: Statalyzer
Name: Alya Oazrk
Rank: Sargeant
Specialty: Maintenance, light mortars.
Personality: Very analytical and mechanically minded, Alya has always known as an overachiever. Many are surprised that female plastic soldiers exist and except her to fit a stereotypical tomboy profile, when in fact she's as femanine as your average young woman. Doesn't really have a sense of personal pride or thirst for fame and glory.
Associates: The rest of the mortar squad, perhaps. She's not the official mechanic but can fix any equipment problem with the squads weaponry, for which they look up to her.
Affliation: TAN

Random facts:
-The kid who named her couldn't spell Ozark. Oazrk is pronounced Oo-AH-zrek.
-Enjoys writing short poems in her spare time but doesn't consider herself very good at it.
-Wishes she were taller by a millimeter or two.

You are free to choose your allegiance now, but this is still in the character creation phase, so I'm not too worried about it yet. And yes, the Commanders are the two rival brothers. I guess I should add "allegiance" as a field in the profiles.

---

Owner: ImageKlonoa
Name: Alan Matilla
Rank: Seargeant
Allegiance: Tan
Specialty: Recon and Demolitions
Personality: Alan is known as a jokester through the barracks and definetely looks the part, thanks to extra plastic on his nose. He is very friendly and outgiong, almost to the point of being annoying.
On duty, however, he is completely focused and devoted to his duties.
Associates: Although he has plenty of friends, none are very close to him.

Owner: ImageKlonoa
Name: Solomon Thompson III
Rank: General
Allegiance: Tan
Specialty: Special Weapons
Personality: As a colonel, Thompson attracted the notice of his superiors with her ability to acquire just about anything. Thompson parlayed that ability into a long and distinguised career in the Tan Army. As he moved up the ranks, Thompson earned a reputation for advancing the roles and capabilities of land-based weapon systems.
He is always scheming and calculating, and expects near-instant results of his plans. He got this far with that midset, and shows no sign of change.
Associates: General Douglas Sheppard, officially retired and a family friend of Thompson's, does give advice that he does take to heart.

Okay, everyone who hasn't already picked an allegiance, please edit one in now please.

I already have a character, and I did think it was best to stick to one Viewpoint character each, but we need a Green General. So I volunteer this one, unless anyone else wants to take up the mantle:

Owner: The Mid-Western Wesforcian Collective
Allegiance: Green
Name: Albert Geoffrey Johnathan VinDiesel III (known by his friends as 'AGJ')
Rank: General, Commander of the Green Army
Specialty: Supreme Commander, Green Forces
Personality: A General from a long line of Generals, schooled by the best and brightest the Green Military College and the Green General Staff have to offer, Albert Geoffrey Johnathan VinDiesel III has risen to the lofty rank of Supreme Commander among Green Forces through self-aggrandisement and self-belief. Amazingly vain, with a fragile ego, he originally demanded that the rank of 'Field Marshal' be created especially for him, but the Commander in Chief refused outright. AGJ has been frustrated and difficult throughout his 7-years as Supreme Commander, and many accuse him of letting standards slack. As the clouds of war gather once more, AGJ sees the war as a golden opportunity to claim glory for his family name once again, and put a happy ending onto a difficult career, no matter the cost...
Associates: Heroic Superior Officer Crouton, Second-in-Command of Green Forces. Jezebel Merryweather, his *ahem* 'Secretary'

AI
09-09-2005, 07:35 AM
Owner: Little Jimmy no-mates.

Allegiance: Green

Name: Doktar Avalanche (Otherwise known as 'Professer Plum' by his current owner)

Rank: Private (Although woe betide anybody who tries to pull rank on him...)

Specialty: Medic.

Personality: Originally part of an older batch of army men from across country, Dok Avalanche has suffered two defining tragedies in his long years of service. The first was seeing his brothers in arms being viciously cut to shreds by a rogue lawnmower. And the second was being knocked from a shelf into a pot of Liche purple paint. On the bright side though, he was damned lucky it wasn't the 'tentacle pink' that was sat next to it. Soon after that, he was sold on Ebay as part of a job lot for 99p (plus £1.50 P&P) and soon packed away and shipped. On his travel across country, he had an encounter with a pack of half-painted Blue Horrors. He had something of a spiritual reawakening during these brief few days, becoming a follower of Tzeentch and devoted to becoming a master Warlock and changing not only himself, but the world around him, with the raw energies of Chaos. However, when he learned that you can't do magic by just saying 'SHAZAM!' he ran out of ideas and started slicing people up for a living instead...

Associates: Apart from Huey, Dewey and Bob the three demon spawn from BEYOND THE MORTAL PLANE, everybody is either afraid or embarassed to be seen with Dok Av. Perhaps because of his disturbing penchant for amputations and lurid purple hue...

Personality: During the outbreak of the 'war to end all plastic,' Agustus distinguished himself in the armored corps, leaving ten green tanks in smouldering bits during a single engagement. After the war ended, he fell into obscurity, becoming poor and a heavy drinker. Recalled to once again field the tanks he loves so much, Agustus is now a sobering commander with occasional benders. Owner : VO

Allegiance: Green

Name : William Gillkore

Rank : Lt. Colonel

Specialty : Guerilla Warfare - Gillkore's horrific melting in the previous war also render him very, very hard to hurt.

Personality : Lt. Gillkore is a veteran of the previous war, seing action in the Greenhouse theatre of operations. In the disasterous rout of Green Forces, Gillkore was escorting a refugee column of Syvanian Families and caught in - unbeknownst to him - his own side's Paint Stripper chemical attacks. Gillkore was horrifically mutilated and cut off from his own side in the retreat, abandoned in the Greenhouse to lick his wounds and carry out a one-man guerilla war against it's occupiers.

For Gillkore, the war never ended. He reaped a bloody (or should that be plasticy) toll against the Tan Peacekeepers, and eventually made contact with the Green forces sent to this theatre at the outbreak of new hostilities. He hates the Tan army with a vigour bordering on insanity. Gillkore suffers occasional flashbacks to the war in the greenhouse.

Associates : None. Gillkore left everything he cared about in the previous war, and now exists only to exact a bloody vengeance against the Tan army.

you..are kidding me right? couple things.

you dont need mg or rpg as a specialty, as every soldier is equally good with any weapon system. specialty is more of what role your char will be doing most. the combat engineer bit is ok, but the rest is unnecessary.

could you please add details to your chars personality? right now, im imagining this little plastic man with an usually high-pitched voice who wears an apron and bonnet, carries a wrench and kettle and skips, humms and trots around the battlefield handing out tea and crumpets. Im positive you dont want that.

the name is silly.

on the plus side, youre one of the few people who got the rank correctly.

i understand you are pretty new here and eager to get in on the RPG goodness, but it helps a lot to read what has been done before and build on that instead of jumping in head-first. :)

New brain-food:

seeing how some of the ranks are a bit off (just 3 i think: wes, aies, ds1), im now allowing all chars to change them. To influence your choice, here's some notes.

Seargeants require the least amount of commitment to the rpg, mainly because they have the least amount of responsibility (looking after themselves basically). If you honestly and truly want to continue playing, but are a little strapped for time, this is probably your best bet.

Colonels order the seargeants around. and thus require more commitment. If you want to keep playing, have a little free time, and dont mind bossing around a couple chars (you can create minor characters who are sargeants possibly other colonels, if need be), this is the one for you.

lastly, Generals require the most commitment, but wield the greatest power, as they not only can order what colonels must do with their men, but can also indirectly role-play the Commander himself. (both elements are in my most recent post at time of typing...check it out). Not to mention being able to create minor characters of any rank if need be.
If you have even less of a life, but will trade that for the chance to control large portions of your allegiance's war effort, the being a General is what you'd want to do.

getting a promotion will obviously take longer than a demotion will, reason for is to minimize any clashing between what has already happened in-game.

finally, i will be living up to my GM duties, and will be deciding if a character dies or not. to be honest, i really dont want to see everyone who started in the game to be alive at the end. Then, all these silly rules i made to the start of the game would be purely to get players to "jump through hoops" for my amusement.

If your character dies, dont whine and moan at me because I said he or she is dead. You have a couple choices.

a. create another main char (the whole nine yards), start from scratch.

b. (if applicable) role-play a minor character who worked closely with your main character, keeping the action going. include a short description within the post.

c. create a new minor character. rank doesnt matter, but availability drops the higher you go. include a short desciption withing the post. talk to me if you want a new general.

d. "possess" a currently existing minor character. doesnt matter who too much, as long as what you do with the char isnt radically different from what they were doing before.

e. watch from the sidelines, although you can always come back and do a,b,c,or d.

Cool, okay:

Timberlake is hereby promoted to the field-rank of Colonel, for his 'heroism in action'.

And there's a fair few other disposable scumbags ready to take his place ;)

im thinking you should join a branch that someone else is in, just so they can keep an eye on you. The profile itself is passable, but barely.

And Wes, i dont think weve heard too much from AGJ. :)

meh, that will work for now. the profile is too vague for my tastes, but i feel it's detailed enough for creative interpretation.

Due to circumstances beyond my control (and the fact that I ****ed myself up), I have to withdraw from this too.
