Echelon Scheme Released

Okay this scheme was sitting around for ages now all unfinished after I lost interest converting things over, but I've finally got it at a level to allow you people to use it!

What is it? Well, for those of you expecting a fancy new scheme will be disappointed; in actual fact, this scheme was created to relicate the look & feel of the very first DGN (then RADEN) Forums. This was way waaaaaaay back in the old days where avatars, signatures, images, smilies, post counts and practically everything else a forum system includes as a bonus these days was non-existant. This scheme has kept to those limitations faithfully; you will see these forums as though you were looking through the eyes of a forum-goer years ago, when the Echelon forum system we were using (hence the name of the scheme) was our primary source of communication!

So why would you use it? God knows if you're a new member, but for the few remaining who have been around for long enough, it might be a nice trip down memory lane to recreate the good ol' days using current forum content! Not sure if you'd ever make it your default scheme now, considering we've all been spoilt the last couple of years. :p

Just use the style drop-down box at the top or bottom of the page to switch schemes to preview it, or through your User CP to change it properly so your posts are updated to reflect that you are an official user of this new scheme! Please let me know here if you encounter any quirks or weird things with it, as this scheme is still fresh off the upgrade and no doubt there might be some issues to iron out still. Call this a beta test! :D

Pretty cool, its surprisingly faithful to the original, did you make this yourself, Moo? Or did you use a hack.

Interestingly, those original Echelon forums are still online :p

Indeed they've always been, just don't post the link here; we don't need for it to become common knowledge to everyone. :p

You'd be surprised how much can be customised in vBulletin; most of it is just radical HTML editing with a few hacks (disabling smilies, user ID generation, create a new thread in topic list etc.) thrown in to complete the image.

And before anyone asks, yes there is an Ikonboard Scheme being done too; that's just a lot more complex to do. :moonie:

Dear god, I actually remember those!

I remember them clearly, but in all honesty, I prefer the Raden Scheme 1 :D
It has the right colour and feel, with the added bonus of being easier to see and of course the emoticoms etc.

Old Skoooooooooool.

Way to go moo, even complete with advertisements. :p

On edit: I did save a bunch of threads on my comp some time back, i'm sure I could find it eventually if I looked. I don't remember the original link though.

I never knew you'ld been here that long.

The Echelon boards still have a few posts every now and then, and not just from oldbies! It seems that some people have wandered upon it every now and then (probably through google or something) and make posts, not knowing its dead :p

Will you marry me? (this has been done before though, hasn't it? or is my memory failing me yet again?)

Indeed it has, but that was primarily just a colour change and a few main section templates. However this time around I'm feeling crazy so I wanna reproduce the entire thing. I've even got Ikonboard installed and configuered a lot like the old forums were so I have a full version to duplicate. :p

Well, maybe just add a few links to the extra options, so they don't clutter up the main page, but you can get them in a similar look. Like the spam box, and more importantly, the user cp. Just small links that somehow fit into the scheme. Even if they weren't there originally, it could probably be done well. Says I, who don't need to do anything to do with making what I say is so simple :p
