View Full Version : C&C3 360 Online

I was thinking about the XBox 360 version of C&C3. My computer most likely won't be able to run it due to the outdated graphics card and processor; furthermore, I only have a 56k modem, so the ability to update the game or play online is out of the question as well.
Because of that, I'll probably get it on the XBox when it comes out for it. However, I have no clue whatsoever on how the 360's online services work, so I decided to ask you guys a few questions in hope for some answers. Here goes:
1. Is it REQUIRED for one to use a broadband connection just to use the service? if not, would a 56k connection suffice?
2. Is there any fee for going on online with my Xbox?
3. Does the 360 come with all the equipment necessary to go online? If not, what am I going to need?
4. If, by some miracle of God, the 360 comes with it's own broadband support and all, and I also get access to the online portion with no hitches, is there anything I should know ahead of time???
Thanks for listening. I really hope that I don't end up missing out on this chapter of the franchise due to my technological limitations!:happysad:
1) Broadband was required for Xbox Live to work on the original Xbox, so it should be the same here.
2) There's a fee for playing online, although you do get a months free trial when you first connect your Xbox to the internet. After that, you have to pay though.
3) Yes, it comes with a cable to plug into your modem/PC/router/whatever.
4) I dunno really, Xbox Live seems like a solid service but I don't have much experience with it. It just depends largely on the game (I've heard Prey multiplayer, for example, is laggy as hell).

I would advise against it because of the limitations of the 360 controller when it comes to RTS, but its your choice.

I really don't have much of a choice. It's either this or no C&C3.
EDIT: AIes, so basically what your're saying is that I have to pay, just to go online? Damn, I guess multiplayer is out of the question!:looklive:

Well, you can go online and download demos, game content, videos, etc, etc, for free - It's just if you want to play, you gotta pay for it. Which is the one thing I hate, and always have hated, about Xbox Live - I don't play online enough to justify the cost.

Think they'll charge me for downloading, say a patch or map??
They *never* charge for game updates - And charges for maps and other additional content will depend on how much money EA want to milk out of it. Some games charge for maps, others let you download them for free.

Alright!
One last question then: do you NEED to use broadband for it, or can you pass by with a 56k? Cause if not, I'm sold!!!:D
Afraid to say that having done a bit of digging, it's broadband only. :\

Even though you do have to pay for online, it's really not that bad of a deal. It's around $60.00 for a whole year. That's the same price for a new computer or video game. It's worth it especially when you have a ton of multi-player online games.

I have live and it's not expensive but just remember you need a broadband internet service to play online..
There are ways to get online with 56k but nobody will play as the games are laggy as hell..

I heard that for the 360, xbox online was free. Just something I heard.

There's two types of membership. Silver, which is free and allows you to download content, demos, etc. and Gold, which actually lets you play games with other people online - That's the one you have to pay for. So you technically can get online for free, just not particpate in multi-player games.

Or I could get the same games for my computer and play them online for free. Yeah, let me think about this for a minute...
Thats why I will probably never get a 360, online play should be free. I don't care if it has a bunch of fancy features, I'ld rather not have the features and not have to pay money.

Ohh ok, but thats still the biggest load of bull**** I've ever heard. Just one more reason why I hate Microsoft.

Ok, not everybody has the luxury of having a comp that can run CNC3 so they have to turn to other alternatives in order to play the game. Even if you had to pay $60.00 to play online a year, it could be a good alternative. And know how much you hate a console RTS, if you are already paying for the XBox online and you can't afford a brand new comp, then having it for the 360 would actually be a good marketing strategy. Their are people who like to play games such as CNC but prefer a console system, don't ask me why.

It's a significant improvement on the old Live system at least, where you couldn't get online at all unless you paid for the starter kit and the subscription. At least with this console everything you need to get online is out of the box, and you can download addional content for games, patches and demos for free.
Battle for Middle-Earth II also isn't that bad for an RTS on a console (judging by the demo), the only problem I can see is that moving around the map is really, really hard. Seriously, I couldn't find my base camp... >.<

Yeah, there is that. :dead:
Still, If the analog sticks weren't so sentitive to the slightest movement, and the map arrow actually pointed the way it was actually moving - It'd kinda work! :p

Which is probably why I personally won't get it for a console system.

I would advise that you should upgrade your computer rather than buying an XBOX, when I was a 56k'er what I did to download large data was to let the comp running all night (worked for the HL2 steam's upgrade, according to my calculations it was around 140MBs to download before been able to play).
Plus, what about mods (assuming the SDK is released, I hope so), xbox can't have mods, and expansions, newer games... I would put my money on upgrading or a new comp.
Yet, I plan to buy a PS3, but only because of the Ace Combat series
