lolololol check what I found:
Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars has been toned down for the German audience, Electronic Arts revealed to CVG this morning.
To abide with the ultra-strict ratings laws, the Nod suicide bombers erm, won't actually commit suicide. Instead the bomb-strapped Fanatic unit will apparently drop off his package and then scuttle off to safety, leaving the battlefield clear of limbs and nasty terrorist entrails. But that's ok.

It wasn't banned, it was heavily censored (like CNC3 will be). In the German version of ZH, the terrorists were replaced with remote controlled barrels of explosives, and the pictures of the generals were modified to make them look like robots.

you see games censorship could turn your country into germany
that would be one of the 7 levels of hell i suppose

I read some time ago they regulary make blood green instead of red in violent games to make the victims seem less human. It's okay to murder intelligent aliens, but not humans!!

Its the 8th, to be precise. Even Satan himself (in the seventh layer, counting from the outside in of course) is allowed to play uncensored games.

Thats pretty much what the German laws said, as long as its not human its ok to kill it, on the plus side it gives developers an easy loop hole (the green blood you mentioned), but on the downside it means they can't actually make the game the way it was supposed to be made.

Not to be a jackass, but I find this kinda hilarious.
What it appears to boil down to, at least at a glance from a non-German citizen (me), is the German government being terrified of potentially offending certain people.

As for the German peeps not being capable of handling violence in a videogame, I doubt that's the issue.

Its not the Germans, its the German government. There is a big difference. Germany is home to a lot of game developers and a very large pro community (several of the best ZH players, such as Dackel, are German). They can't help their government's silly restrictions.

Its a german kid attempting to play unreal tournament online. He is very impatient which is obvious from his manic screaming of "CMON LOAD FASTER!! COME THE ****** ON I WANT TO PLAY UNREAL TOURNAMENT" after some serious keyboard abuse it loads, after more screaming he goes totally nuts and yells "YEA HERE WE GO BI*CH!! IM GONNA KILL YOU!!! I WILL KILL YOU ALL!!" Shortly after apprently dying in the game he destroys his keyboard and all the keys fall off then he gives up.

Damn. That kid has a whole lot of other issues besides the comp loading slowly.
I'm also guessing that it's this kid that "scared" the German govt into doing something so retarded, right???:\

Your English is so ****ing bad, you might as well type in Dutch.
Germans don't suck at games, it's just the noobs you decide to surround yourself with. As it's been said, Germany is home to alot of gaming activity, but the government's taken a more "keep it G-rated" approach towards violence in media (probably due to recent events).

No, I don't understand that, but it's easier on my eyes knowing that I don't have to read/decipher as much ****ed up English.
It doesn't change the gameplay at all, it just takes out the violence/offensive nature that a "terroist" would have on some people. It's exactly the same as Zero Hour.

so, to clear things up as a german citizen who is not the proudest fan of his governments latest actions, here a review of the actions against/for safety in our country, concerning video games etc.
in 2002 in the german city of Erfurt, a former student returned to his school, armed with a shotgun and a glock (it's extremely hard to get ANY weapon in germany, even knifes that are not for kitchen use are carefully looked after by the feds), killing 13 teachers, 2 students and a cop.
When the federals checked all the evidence in his room that could have led to the massacre and evaluating what brought him to that kind of crazyness, they found out that some games like "Hitman" were installed on his PC.
Now, there is a nice "news"-paper in germany, called the "bild", that often polarizes and overstresses facts to heighten its daily sales. That wouldn't be a problem if it hadn't had over 5 million sales a day. They took the most-played fps in germany, "Counter-Strike" and blamed it as scapegoat.
By the german media, especially "Bild", the term "Erfurt" has just a so cruel and direct mental connection to the shooting as the terms "Columbine" or "Littleton" have to most of the american fellas here on the board.
Well now, they (the bild) took the game counter-strike as a scape-goat for the shooting and as there were some similarities between this shooting and a later, similar shooting in the City of Emsdetten in 2006, both in 2002 and 2006 the JugendSchutzGesetz, the Book of Law for the Safety of Young people in the German Republic, was revised and tightened.
Now, almost every 3rd FPS in Germany gets "banned", meaning you can only buy it if you are of legal age (18 here) and even then most of the game versions are "cut" because of the publishers fearing for their sale-figures in good ol' germany :p. half-life 1 had yellow blood. most games got their blood and gore-parts removed, some releases on valve's online platform steam were delayed for over a month because they had to be rated by german feds first, even the battlefield-series was cut... and...now... listen to that:
THERE WAS NO PART OF THE C&C-SERIES RELEASED IN GERMANY THAT WASN'T CENSORED BUT ONE.
and that one is...tataa...the first, "uncut" version of generals... it stayed in stores for less than 14 days before police came, collected the boxes, burned/shreddered them and the publisher (ea) was to release the german cut version, "generäle" (german for "generals" :gnarly:). That version, like aaaall the other censored ones, has androids instead of humans, blood removed (as that would help in a rts-game) and various other freaky things, like the bomb-barrels-on-weels instead of the suicide-bombers of the gla and the complete removal of the "america-attacks-iraq"-style 1st us-mission (seemed to be too offensive as a realistic scenario) . also, they removed the end-cutscene of the gla, where they bomb the city with nerve-gas. (phew, i was lucky to get one of the now-banned-ones :D )
now, in tiberium wars, ea had to release 2 different versions. one is "cut", like the suicide-bombers just droppin their package and then running away into the forrest for some humpin' or the nuke being renamed to "aurora-bomb" and such crap... most of it totaly useless for "real" censorship, but hey... why not?
the other one, which i bought today *hrhr* is called the "Kane Edition".
Joe Ducan on a really nicely styled cover with his evil-mind-plotting-complete-mayhem-style :flame: and some extra skins, wallpapers and a making-of-dvd for like 10 bucks more. That version is rated "keine Jugendfreigabe" (banned / rated R+) and somehow rare to find in shops.
oh...and best thing about the box: the big, reflecting silver/green letters "KANE LEBT!" (kane lives!) written on the back
instead of keeping on elaborating on the youth-guarding-by-creating-new-prohibitions i'll go and catch some sleep, as it's 2 am here :p
but... some random funny facts about the topic:
- both amok-stagers that went crazy in their school were waaay over 20 years old, so even with the new law in germany, they could buy all the uncensored games in germany or import them from another country legally.
- currently, the german parliament and the eu-parliament discuss a law that prohibits the use of standby- and light-dimming-switches in households as they use up too much energy....
come on... they don't really think that some grown-up people (like 80 million of them only in germany) couldnt think for themselves? :wtf:
edit: *waves around* hey...how are ya all? my first post on the boards after leeching mods and maps for like 4 or 5 years... :D

I ordered my copy from Austria, just to make sure I got the uncut version. Funny, in Germany you'll get the sliced and diced versions but just over the border, which is not really a border anymore, you can get the "schlach mich tot" or "beat me to death" editions.
...Mithraw, where you from in Germany? I live just over the line from Bavaria, about a 15 minute drive from Aschaffenburg.

Problem is, they can't seem forgive themselves.
It's pretty stupid IMO. Always reminds me of the japan & underage porn subject. In Japan, lolicon manga (comics with explicit sexual content involving underage people) and other sex-related comics are incredibly common. Here's the fun part... it turns out Japan actually has pretty much the LOWEST rate of sexual crimes on earth :p
People just have certain urges & problems, and if they CAN'T get it out of their system in games, comics or other harmless ways, they'll do it in real life. The conclusion is that censorship is worse than useless. It can actually cause MORE problems.
Germany, take notes. There will be a test :p

I went a couple of years back, and I can confirm. The only problem is, I'm sure it would be alot more amusing if I could understand/read what was going on.
Can't wait to go back there though. :D

...yep, in the state of Baden-Würtemmberg about 2 hours south. Nice area.
I was picking up the "Northern Strike" booster pack for BF 2142 at the local Media Markt store, and I got into a conversation with one of the sales people about C&C 3. He didn't know anything about the censored Tiberium Wars. I've also talked to a few of my customers and they didn't have a clue either. I think this time around the censoring hasn't gotten that much media attention as the previous versions of C&C.

I'm from Germany too...Heidelberg to be precise. This whole Killerspiel (killinggames) thing has been an issue for several year and bothered me all the time. There are many websites dedicated against the plans of the government to change the Law concerning violence in games. I think today is also a big demo in several cities in Germany where gamers assemble and play chess against each other (with real persons) just to demonstrate, that chess is just as much a "killing game" as counter strike etc. I always get my games from other countries as well as movies. Often the German synchronizations suck big time. At the magazine Bild which was mentioned earlier, they had a poll on whether or not to ban video games. I think at least 85% voted that videogames don't "create" killers and that games should stay the way they are. So almost everyone is against it...it's just the government with the opinion that games are the root of all evil  I think they don't know how to distract from other problems in the country.
I'll be getting C&C 3 in the next few days...of course uncut and in english :)
