Help a Newbie - Generals wont work on vista?

Hi all, i bought generals today coz i saw it in the bargain bin... red alert (the original) works on vista... why doesnt generals? i have a acer tm2480 with vista home basic 32 bit.

It installs perfect, then when i go to run it, i get the little screen that says c&c generals, then that disapears and i get a little screen that says c&c generals (and has pics of tanks on it) and then... i get the blue screen of death :grumpy: :grumpy: :grumpy: :grumpy:

i took it to my dads house and tried it on his pc with xp and it worked. i want it to work on mine!

i've tried everything i could think of, including changing compatability of the exe file and all, but nothing works! and i have the 1.08 patch for it.

install dual boot xp, solves a lot of problems

compatabilitymode might work as well

It's an old post I know but to help others, i recently installed onto Vista 64 bit,

All you need to do is:

1. run in windows XP SP2 compatibilty mode (right click your shortcut, left click properties)
2. create an Options.ini (I used the same for both Generals and ZH really i should double check my XP installations):

for AA I have 6 set for my ATI cards, i think its 4 for NVIDIA cards

I have Vista.

The game runs perfect with my nvidia 162 Driver, but doesnt with the newer 169 driver.

With the newer driver it says DX 8.1 not found.
