View Full Version : Lion's Weekend Blurb - March 31, April 1
After watching about a dozen or so replays of peeps playing online games, I've come to the conclusion that C&C3 is more like the original Red Alert. Not that it's a bad thing though. I loved to play Red Alert online, and do miss it. It was a tank spamming game, and that's just about what C&C3 is about as well. Some will disagree, but the proof is in the pudding, or in this case, the replays. You develop a good build order that rakes in da money in the least amount of time, and then just spam tanks ASAP. And may the biggest tank army win. Are there counters to a large mass of Preds or Mammies barreling down on your position. Yes indeed there is! An equal amount of tanks waiting for them should do the trick. I'm not making fun of the game. The original Red Alert was my favorite, and C&C3 IS the modern version of that game. Refs n War Factories n Tanks...OH MY! Follow the yellow brick road to VICTORY! Tanks for da memories.

Yea. Tanks play a very pivotal role in this game. Supporting them with infantry just bolsters their powers, but a massed tank charge (Especially in the case of the Mammoth) will guarantee a win.
Though I have been using the Commando in suicide dives which work well sometimes.

While I do not own the game yet, I have played it at a friends, and the Mammoth tank is still a beast. In a 1 vs 1 game, just spam a dozen of those things and steamroll the enemy. The only problem is when they send in a wave of bombers, and do a lot of damage to your tanks.
On a side note, I have been trying to beat the Brutal AI in a 1 vs 1 game, and still cannot win. I have to do a handicap of at least 45% or I will not win.

Yea, I can't beat the Brutal AI without a 50% handicap. I've tried going lower but my clicker isn't fast enuf...:D
I watched a replay after I played, and it was unbelievable how fast the comp builds using Brutal. It is great practice to prep for online games though.

I get online all the time and go own Brutal AI in Comp Stomp. I don't spam tanks though. Only Planetary Assault Carriers.:D

Update: I just finished some more skirmish games and managed to beat a Brutal with a 40% Handicap, though it took a while. I tried doing a game at 35%, but couldn't build a defense fast enough, he wiped out my base before I could finish him off.
Lion, once I get my copy of the game, I will have to send you a replay of some of my games, maybe that will help you beat it. Some might think my playing style is odd or horrible, but it works.
EDIT: I have now beaten a Brutal Nod comp with a 35% handicap, but forgot to save the replay! I played as Nod, which seemed to work, but he built a ton of power plants and stealth machines, then surrounded them with anti ground.
I spent most of the game trying to hold one of the 2 tiberium fields on that smalltown USA map, before he finally captured it. The comp then sent a massive wave of venoms into my base, since I had very little anti air. There had to have been like 50 of them, but my 3 set of Sam sites and 6 venoms took them out, as he spent his time shooting at obelisks and structures rather than my anti air. Then I built my own venom army and invaded his bases, but taking out the base took forever, since he had so many defense structures and power plants.

Indeed, this game has alot of spam. I am a nod player, and I don't always only spam scorpion tanks, there are many, MANY, other useful units, especially nods infantary units that help defeating the enemy.
Something people ignore is mixing rocket infanarty with vehicles, the rocket infantary can be very useful, just make sure they are not standing too close to each other otherwise one tank would crush up to 10 units, which would suck!
EDIT:Are you guys also currently having problems with multiplayer right now?I can't seem to login. . . .

Yes...tis sunday afternoon, and the C&C3 game servers are very slow. This is due to problems EA is having with their ISP provider. They're working on fixing the problem.

Picked up my Limited Edition on Saturday, loaded it and went right back to playing WoW! I will save this game for those times when I have more of it, like on my retirement in October. :D
I kind of disagree with the tankspamthing which lion said, If I play the scrin, I mostly use airunits in combo with these tripodthingys and a couple of squads of razers to deal with the infantry inside buildings.
If I play GDI however, a couple of mammothtanks usually do the trick, but they can also be used VERY well as defence in combination with a rig, as the rig autorepairs the units in a large range, and the mammoths provide the firepower as well as armour to take on a lot of units.
As nod, life is just a bit harder, but if one takes a few of those stealth bombers you usually are able to create a breach in defences of the enemy. In general this game is just too fast paced to play eround with a few squads of those flying glider infantry. In this case I do agree with the topicstarter that tankspam is the only viable solution to any problem.
