Short game means that the game is over when you don't have any built structures under your control. Otherwise, the game isn't over until every last one of your units have been killed.

I prefer shortgame on, but it doesn't make a difference most of the time. And having it off allows for some fun endgames. Just make sure you always check it on naval maps, or your opponent might run off with some dolphins or squids and it could take hours to find them all.

No remaining buildings with Factory=

If you can't build anymore you lose.

Also mind that if he has still a mcv, you need to kill that too before you can win.

If short game is off and ai has no Factory/MCV it will have a fire sale (sell everything and attack closest enemy)

I've noticed that to. I hate that especially when you want to have some fun and build a massive base.

On team games, I like having short game off. It means if your base is demolished you can still aid your allies slightly with your remaining forces you mananged to salvage.

Especially good for 2v2 or 3v3 land games. With naval, it's not so good, because somebody can hide out with 1 dolphin after the game is far over. Still, it can be interesting when you annihilate one guy's base but his navy is still intact and supporting his allies, and usually nobody does a cowardly hideout with one unit that has 0 chance of winning.

i'm suprised all u ppl didnt know wat teh difference is. in teh game it speciffically says in the tooltip at the bottom of teh screen when you roll your mouse over the option: Player looses after all remaining buildings are destroyed (or something like that)

obviously the way to keep them from selling out is to not attack them stupid

Short Game On=If you don't own any buildings then you lose and everything that you own blows up
If you lose all your base but you have an mcv you don't lose
If you lose your base and you own tech buildings or garisan buildings then they are destroyed aswell.
Short Game Off=If you own nothing, you lose.

Once with short game on I a Naval Yard that was close to shore (so I couldn't do the naval yard stretch to survive) and my conyard had been blown up so I couldn't build another. I had fended off the attack that killed my conyard, but another one was coming and I knew I was doomed. So, since I had a war factory and service pad, I built an MCV and quickly put it in a hovercraft and took it to the far corner of the water and then began building naval units until I ran out of credit. Once his next tank force game, I sold all but the NY and with that cash managed to build a couple of other naval units before he said 'gg' and killed that building. But the game didn't end so he thought I was cheating. :D

Then my navy started killing his base and I thought I was going to win, but I had only 1 or 2 Aegis, so before I could destroy the whole base, he came with like 12 harriers and sunk the hovercraft, thus drowning the MCV and ending the game. :(
