wthigon and I played a game just a while ago, against a hard Nod AI set on turtle. Thing is, a little into the game it came storming out of the gates with Venoms, militia squads, and scorpion tanks. Good thing for me I set up a forward post for tiberium and bottled it right up w/ defenses. If I hadn't I could say bye-bye to any extra money from that spot. Replay added for your enjoyment.

But anyways, does setting the AI on hard make it's personality waver a bit?

It turtled for me. I think what it does it, it build excess defences but when it feels it has enough force it will try and take you down with a storm of units. It wouldnt be a good ai if it didnt try to win and just built defences :P

I played a turtling nod hard AI as the scrin and crushed it, although it had many obelisks at a forward post it left its rear base undefended and without power those obelisks fell easily.

Like I said, turtle isn't really a strategy a long term one at least... if you can't outproduce/tech the opponent after the initial attack, it becomes very dangerous for you. Through superior defenses (base defense I suppose) you defeated the opponent's attack with relateively few losses... now what's the point of that if you don't exploit it and coutner attack since they could just make more? (easily too, since they have expansions and you don't, and if you do, wouldn't have cut that off first?)

I usually try to outtech an opponent, focussing on getting those stormcolumns up fast, sertainly against a bot, or in the case of GDI, I use those sonic things, they really mess up the scrin :)

but maybe I can persue those tactics because the AI is predictable in the attacking position.

Just take a tech building in the centre of the map and fortify it

It may've tried to capture more tiberium fields, more than likely. Can't keep turtling unless you got the monies to replace any losses. It's really more of an aggressive turtle. It would've been funny to ion cannon it everytime, since it has a habbit of spamming defense structures.

I find the brutal steamroller to be one of the most dificult to defeat, even in a 2v2. it appears to be creating massive amounts of units, in the order of 20 infantry squads, and sending them just straight over. Mostly I am able to defeat the first couple of waves, but against GDI with 8 or 10 juggernauts, in combo with mammoths, there is no stopping them. Not as NOD, and not as Scrin

last match I played though, was all brutal on the 4 vs 4 map (second last)

what a mess... been busy all the time defending my own comps while trying to get that ion cannon ready for deployment.

the AI in this game is much more improved. if you dont attack a turtle AI for random time then it will build up a large force to attack you with. i have even seen it turn into a sort of balanced computer and sell its defences because i wasn't ever attacking or geting near ( i was turtling.)
the AI changes to your tactics.
if you rush it and attack it nonstop when its a turtle it will build like 2 times the defences it normaly does.

AI does seem to waver as you said...

In the demo (cuz im too broke for the release, paypal me :p ) I was facing a GDI turtle. I spent most my time expanding to the tiberium fields and massing predators (lesson learned from Steamrollers). I was about to take the second one when they put up an Ion Cannon. Then they started spamming orcas (and it just so happens I had no air defense, minus maybe one or two missile squads. fun stuff) I was basically forced to tech and def up just to take out that IC.

If you're looking for some laughs, then try seeing what happens when a Scrin MotherShip successfully breaks an enemy Turtle AI's base defenses... I swear, it'll look like ID4 all over again, only this time you won't even have to fire a shot!!!:roflmao:

yesterday evening I played another skirmish, 2 v 2, 2 brutal steamrollers (1 ally), and one turtle

I couldn't defeat the turteling AI with a group of 7 mammoths, all having a star obove 'm

his whole base was crammed full of those ****ty defences, even my ion cannon coulnd't do the trick

it's just damn dificult these days, cause for some odd reason the AI can click its' mouse a lot faster then I am able to

What'dya expect dude? It's a comp: they're always masters at multi-tasking!

Man, I can't beat Brutals 1v1 though. Then again, I've only tried once. I guess MMOs really do eat up your time.

I was kind of hoping perhaps that they let the AI act more like a human, then just give it 2x the amount of resources and the ability to issue 1000 commands in a second

The comp doesn't get any monetary advantages until brutal level. Up until then, it plays just as close as it can to a very very good human player - adaptive tactics and lots of micromanagement. Crank it up to brutal and it gets basically unlimited cash, no fog of war and lower power consumption, amoungst other bonuses.
