locking up

i recently upgraded to windows vista and now when i try and play C&C3 it will randomly lock up meaning i have to restart my pc, i cant alt-tab out of it, it just completely freezes. ive made sure ive got the latest drivers etc and its patched to 1.04 but still the same problem. any idea how i can fix this?


oh btw i dont even have to be playing the game, sometimes it will lock up on the menu :rolleyes:

I know this isn't the help your looking for, but,

I've been using XP for five maybe six years, and I've never seen a BSOD in that time.

But since installing C&C3 I've encountered it numerous times.....

Even with a fresh XP install It still crashes on me from time to time.

Sometimes just the game crashes, other times it's the whole enchilada !!


Edit: Ooh ! I'm no longer just "Cadet" or "Private" Woot !!

i dont even get a BSOD its just the game displayed but the mouse wont movie and it wont react to pressing keys etc it just sits there till i manually restart

BSODS are almost always either a driver problem or hardware fault, so considering youve never seen one before its probably a driver thing. Since theres a few others reporting BSODS on various forums i think theres a driver fault somwhere probably with a graphics card. EA will most likely see a pattern with the people reporting the BSODS and their driver revision/video card and sort it.i dont even get a BSOD its just the game displayed but the mouse wont movie and it wont react to pressing keys etc it just sits there till i manually restart

Check the settings for your graphics card and the settings in c&c 3, turn off everything unnecesary and see if it works then.

It may just be a vista thing, vistas drivers differ from XP and some manufacturers havent updated their drivers for the products they have for vista. Creative i believe was one of them, dunno if theyve sorted it now, nvidia was another.

i dont think i have any extras on, its just really random from what ive noticed if i stop playing and save the game every 10 minutes or so i can quite happily play through a who game but if i try and just play through one after 15 minutes or so it just locks up but then as ive said before it has done it whilst just at the menu aswell :rolleyes: think its time for a new pc anyway:D
