The farmers in my neck of da woods have started their annual spreading of cow manure on their fields in preparation for the spring planting season. I've lived all my life in the country, and actually live right next door to a farm. You get use to the smell of course, even the nasty liquid stuff that is sure to curl the nose of any city slicker visiting the area. But why do they have to spread it on so thick? The only complaint I have is when they go by my house and spill some of the liquid manure on the road. The smell is there for days at a time. But I suppose it's all part of living in the country where the deer and the cows frolic in the pasture together.

They spread manure in my area too. There are fields all around where I work. Thank God that it is snowing today so the smell isn't so bad, but like Lion said, you get use to it. Snowing today, and 60s by Monday...only in Wisconsin!

We live about 500 yards from a small farm. The dude has about 30 hogs cooped up in a brick barn. He uses the manure to fertilize his fields. Thats some potent pile of dung.

We live in farm country too! Yeah the manure gets bad at times. What really smells is the fish stuff. Whoa! But the the worst is a skunk. It never fails as the weather heats up the skunks go wandering. We leave our bedroom window open and some nights the skunks smell so bad it wakes from you from a dead sleep. It smells so bad that you think the skunk sprayed right below your window. (you can taste it in your throat) But as it turns the skunk got squished on the next street over, or a dog was chasing him.

Wouldn't want to live next to the hog motel though. (unless it's BBQ time) :hyper:

Hey, at least you're closer to you ham and bacon. ;) :p

My dad used to work at an Airforce Base, and right next to the base was a large farm that sold manure. It smelled like ****, honest to God. Good quality stuff, though.

I don't believe its the amount but rather the quality of the manure that is spread here. And some fine quality it is.:D
