View Full Version : Post your custom keyboard shortcuts/tactics

As they say in the game files themselves, keyboard shortcuts are a key ingredient to constructing and maneuvering things very quickly.

Do you guys use custom keyboard shortcuts? I'm still learning the default ones (and stretching my hands for tab + F4 for building and placing a bunch of silos). If you have custom shortcuts, what are they? I'm probably gonna change a few things around to make it easier, but for now I have about half the default ones down.

I like to sit back and relax and do my click fest with one hand on the back

the only shortcuts I use is groups from 1 to 0, and control + A to easily upgrade my powerplants when I can.

Oh yeah, I just wanted to throw out there that the default hotkeys are terrible, but thats alright because EA lets you easily change them (most RTS's don't let you change hotkeys, and if they do its hard to do). Anyone who intends to play online at all should customize their hotkeys and become very, very comfortable. You shouldn't be clicking a single on-screen button (although I do click for the powers, the hotkeys for those are too far away from the rest of mine).

I haven't checked yet, but there's a way to add more keys, right? I'm talking about keys such as the extra mouse buttons if you have them.

Not that I know of. You can't do it in-game, so if its possible you would have to manually edit hotkey.ini. I tried this with "MOUSE_4" but that didn't work, and I didn't feel like trying anything else because honestly I don't think it is possible. One thing you could do if you have mouse drivers other than the Windows default is assign your alternate mouse buttons to a key on the keyboard, and that should work. Some mice make this process easier than others.

what would you need extra mouse butttons for?

Assign something quick... like have auto-attack be the Mouse_4 button instead of control-click... or alt click... whatever

I have a Z-Board and, though I haven't modded it yet, I could create my own keyset.

All the tons of quick things I'd wanna be able to do.

I actually do have a thrustmaster, but I don't wanna have to drag it out just for this game. I'll see what works.

Call me nuts, but I want to get into C&C3... and if I want to be "good" then i'll need to learn those shorcuts.

Just a quick question: wich ones do you use the most?

All the construction buttons, all the upgrade/ability buttons, repair, sell, power down, and reverse move, stop, select type, select all, and sometimes scatter. I also occasionally use waypoints.

Thank you. :)

Those are alot... Oh well, time to start memorizing... (or do some keybinding to make it easier)

do u think that what they started off as are really that bad? I don't really use the keys alot, it is faster by using my universal hand, (click, click, click, click, click, click, click, click, click, click)
besides team numbers... those r important .........

Not really...no. I use that now to, just wondered if it would make THAT much of a difference in gameplay itself.

Just want to take a look from the other side once I guess. And yes, team numbers ARE important. :)

Of course I say that because I spend most of my time micro managing my armies...

I actually use the default keyboard shortcuts, I find them pretty coherent

Yeah!, thats pretty much it, but I just use the construction ones in the begining, after that its like a keyboard-enhanced click fest.:p

I have not changed mine yet. Any Tips on what I should do to make things easier? Thanks.
