View Full Version : World Builder Problem - Map not showing up in game.
My map I am making, will not show up in game. And I'm unsure why. I have added Skirmish teams, as well as Waypoint for each starting team, and yet, nothing...
Anyone know what, and why?

I got this from the Readme - did you have a look at it?
To create a basic multiplayer map,
1. Run Worldbuilder from the directory in which you installed
Command and Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars.
2. Open the Player List (Edit > Edit Player List).
3. Click the "Add Skirmish Players" button at the bottom and
click "Ok" to close the player list.
4. Use the waypoint tool (Shortcut: W) and set players'
starting locations, by using the tool and left-clicking the
areas on the map where you want the start locations. Maps may
support a maximum of eight players.
5. In the Waypoint Options box, use the dropdown menu to select
"Player_1_Start", "Player_2_Start", and so on, until all of
your waypoints are defined.
6. Save your map (File > Save); the filename you define will
be the name of the map in the game menus.
7. Run Command and Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars; your map will
appear in the Skirmish menu and will also be available in
Multiplayer for Online and LAN use.
To aid you, here's a checklist for making sure you've covered
all the bases in your multiplayer map:
[ ] Added Skirmish Players from the player list.
[ ] Defined all starting locations using the waypoint tool.
[ ] Resized the map to the appropriate size (File > Resize).
[ ] Modified the terrain with the Height Brush (H), Mound
(Shift + H), Dig (Ctrl + H), and Smooth (S) tools.
[ ] If map is symmetrical, used the Terrain Copy Tool to
copy, rotate, and paste each section.
[ ] Painted on Textures (T) and blended them.
[ ] Confirmed all passability, Tiberium growability, and
buildability using the Terrain Material Objects window (T).
[ ] Placed Tiberium fields with the Place Object Tool (P).
Tiberium is located under ByNativeType > Neutral > MiscNatural;
make sure to place Green and/or Blue fields.
[ ] Placed any tech structures with the Place Object Tool (P).
Tech structures are located under ByNativeType > Neutral >
Structure.
[ ] Placed any additional civilian buildings, garrisonable
buildings, or other objects with the Place Object Tool.
[ ] Placed any still water or rivers using the corresponding
Lake and River tools.
[ ] Adjusted the lighting settings or time of day (Ctrl+D
cycles through them).
[ ] Saved map.
Edit: You probably have to save it in a certain folder?
It saves in the proper folder, already read that Max.

I heard someone on another forum that if you name your map (note: not the file name) then it won't show up. I don't know if this is true or if its your problem though.

Hey, most people always skip the Readme. :p
Well Rolk...make 100% sure that the waypoints you have for the player starting positions are named correctly, and not just 'waypoint1, etc. That would be the only reason I know that a map wouldn't show up in game. You can also check the MapCache config settings to make sure the number of players are at least 2, and the map is set to "isMultiplayer = yes" to see if the map you made is registering AS a playable map. If not, then obviously it won't show up under the map list in game.

Well I figured out what it was.
The Waypoint system is very tempermental. All working now, map should be available in a few hours! Aye!

For those of us who might have the same problems, what was the workaround for this? :)
Simply re-assure your waypoints are named 'player_1_start' ect, its very simple, I assumed that Waypoint 1 was actually player 1 start, but they have to be named...

Hrm.. I figured out the naming of the waypoints but was wondering if I had missed something else.
It's odd; I've been able to follow the basic recipe they give (which gives a very bland & small map), but on another map, I've tried to follow the steps after starting to make it and it still doesn't seem to show up on the list yet.
I wonder what specifically that the game looks for to see if it should show a custom map on the skirmish map list?
As far as I can tell, the main thing the game looks for, is the player start positions...

I think that might be it, but my problem was that, in the MapCache.ini I had the following set for my map:
isScenarioMP = yes
where it should be, in order to see it in the skirmish map list:
isScenarioMP = no
I hope this helps someone. I guess I had set it a while ago thinking it was to be able to play it in multiplayer, but it isn't needed (or wanted?) for skirmishes.
[Edit]: I forgot to add that the MapCache.ini is saved in the root folder with your maps. ie: \Documents and Settings\(USERNAME)\Application Data\Command & Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars\Maps

I have not tested this but, when I named my first singler player map (in map settings) after creating 3 multiplayer skirmish maps for me to mess around with (no map names) the map did not appear in the game.
