If no-one protests, or begins to moan loud enough, I'm thinking of starting up a new Inquisitor RP, focousing more upon the conflicts within the inquisition occuring because of conflicted interests (Burn the Book! No, read the book!)
Some of the combat therefore would be Player vs Player, but the main idea behind the thread would be set about small bands of the imperiums best(Non-superhumans) trying to root out a chaos plot.

If anyone's interested, voice your interest now. I'm afraid I probably won't get this started until the summer, because of looming Exams.

Would I be able to join this anew without reading all the old Inquisitor stuff, or would I need to acquaint myself with all previous Inquisitor happenings?

I'm thinking about resurrecting one of my characters from a previous RPG that never went anywhere and altering him/her to fit the new situation....

I think my character will be an out-of-employment American-Italian plumber who uses mushrooms and enhcanted flowers as weapons while using a velociraptor as his steed. Pretty much no way in hell ANYONE could have used that idea.;)

Hey all. Apologies for being away for so long. Some unforseen tapping into the MMORPGing craze took place......

Anywho, I'll try starting this up soon. Getting a backround and proper info thread started.

You can take part without having read the previous inquisitor incarnation, I should be able to supply people with all the info they need.

As regards planning towards characters, bear in mind that you are creating an inquisitor, fiery, zealous and an instrument of the Emporers will. Although not all turn out that way. But, being one of the imperiums most trusted instruments, and at the most senior levels being well able to commission the exterminatus of a planet, they are likely to have a few willing aides, bodyguards, trusted friends and useful individals tha they like to draw upon from time to time.

Just to give an outline of Inquisitor mentality, i'll give a small bit of the orgainisms structure. There are three sections, Ordo Hereticus (Witch Hunters, tasked with the weeding out of heresy within the Imperial Populace), Ordo Malleus (Daemon Hunters, tasked with tracking down and eliminating major chaos plots that would be considired too perelous or costly to be undertaken by anyone else) and Ordo Xenos (Alien Hunters, tasked with controlling Imperial contact with other alien species and creating weapons to be used against such foes). Of these orders Ordo Hereticus is the most zealous or puritanical, as they see themselves as the cleansing flame of the imperium and even go as far as despizing other inquisitors who use psykers and daemons against chaos. Ordo Malleus can be either zealously puritanical or zealously radical. The puritanical inquisitors relying on a solid shield of faith and the backing of the mythical Grey Knights. The radicals use chaos against itself, using daemonhosts and Psykers. Ordo Xenos are as unpredictable as the races which they study, ranging from all forms of Zealousness and even loyalty to their cause.

Hope that gives you a rough out line of what kind of character you might have. Of course there are always adeptus arbites leaders, and Bounty hunters and all many of other things which dwell in the drab depths of the imperium.....

So we're basically the chiefs of the secret police of a magical galactic ruling system? Is this Empire evil or good, or is it one of those gray areas where it does some good but also has questionable methods and there is reasonable disagreement - all characters must decide for themselves. Also, what about these guys we're fighting - an evil Empire wouldn't mean that our enemies are all good. Maybe they are more evil (especially those demons).

Exactly, Inquisitor is based around the Warhammer 40k universe. it just goes further into the backround, with less of the massive battles spanning planets, it's more of the fight against the cancers that are taking apart the imperium of man from the inside.

As to the intentions of the Empire as a whole. It's not a galactic evil empire, it's based upon the strong backbone of the Eclessiarchy, which directs the faith of the empire for the God-Emperor, who united all Humanity in a crusade to take back the Universe from the hands of the Alien and the Heretic. But it is heavily administrated and as a result often over looks areas. The inquisition are simply a group which polices every level of the Imperium with a critical eye. To them a Colonel with 40 years of service under his belt is just as succeptable to corruption as the low-life green grunt

Also, what about these guys we're fighting - an evil Empire wouldn't mean that our enemies are all good. Maybe they are more evil (especially those demons).

For an Inquisitor, the Empire is all good, so I would guess when role-playing you would believe this unfailingly. From an overall view from a third-person perspective, there isn't really a pure good side. The Empire of Man is a specist, totalitarian theocracy. However, one of its principle enemies, the Chaos powers, aided by human traitors who fought against the God-Emperor, is far more evil. The Empire of Man is (in my opinion) as dystopian as it is because of the treason of those who allied with Chaos. The Empire sees itself as the sole defense against the Chaos gods, daemons who are otherwise trapped in an alternate dimension known as the Immaterium (or "the Warp") but wish to come into this universe. If they did make it to our universe, things would be very, very bad.

To make matters worse, humanity faces threats from other species in the galaxy itself. At best they waste resources the Empire would prefer to use to counter Chaos, and at worst they present a serious threat to the survival of humanity. Of these species, none are pure good, though some could be considered better than others- from a third-person perspective, NOT from the perspective of an Inquisitor or loyal Imperial subject. In the end, none of the factions in the Warhammer 40K universe are actually very good (except perhaps the Imperial Guard, who are poor saps that have to fight for the Empire).

For the purpose of the Inquisition, however, it's rather simple. Loyal subjects with unquestioning faith to the Empire are good (or at least not a threat), while aliens (usually called "Xenos" in the WH40K universe) and humans loyal to other species or to Chaos are bad. To be honest, it sounds a lot like a secret police of a totalitarian state, but as lore shows, this actually has to be done to keep the universe from being overrun by daemonic powers.

An Inquisitor's faith in the Empire should be absolute and he shouldn't question if the Empire is good or bad. He can, however, have his own motives for pursuing his job, which could be where the variety and the interest of playing this game lies.
