View Full Version : Two Untrue Rumers At Generals Online

There have been two rumers that have been going around on generals online. The first one is:

Typing "/me" before your text will make the rest of the text a pink color. When this is done in a game room people in the lobby can see it.

Typing "/me" to make text pink does work. But I'm typing about players in the lobby seeing it http://cncmaps.net/style_emoticons/default/huh.gif . I've tried this on two computers in the same room on different accounts. On one computer I was in the lobby & on the other computer I was in a room. I typed, "/me Can you see this?" I didn't see any thing in the lobby, (I was in the right lobby room.) I think this rumer started when players started seeing things like "cw anyone?" & assumed that was typed from a room. It was accually typed in the game lobby. I don't know axactly what it's used for, but I think it's for making your text stand out infront of other chatters.

The next rumer is:

When pressing the "PLAY GAME" button while hosting a room (While there's at least one other player in the room) your room will be refreshed for the other players in the game lobby.

Players assumed that this would refresh their room because somtimes you'll see, "Entering sandbox mode," & didn't know what it meant. I dont' know why they thought that it would refresh. Here's quote from http://cncden.com/cncgen_multiplayer.shtml (http://cncden.com/cncgen_multiplayer.shtml)
"Sandbox Mode: This mode allows you to play on a multiplayer map without opponents. This will help you get familiar with the maps and try out the various structures and units of your chosen army. Holding down the “Ctrl” key and left clicking with a unit selected will allow you to fire their weapons with out actually having an enemy to fire at (see the “Keyboard Command Shortcuts” section HERE). Create a game in the same manner as a “Custom Match” multiplayer game. When clicking “Create Game” enter a password in the dialog box that appears to prevent other opponents from entering. When you get to the arbitration screen (the screen that appears after clicking “Create Game”) choose your color, army and map. Make sure there are no other opponents in the remaining slots. Click “Start Game” to begin."
So all the game is trying to do when you see, "Entering sandbox mode," is trying to enter sandbox mode. But it can't because there are other players in the room. This is just an EA games bug. Just ignore it. It's just not logical that you'd be able to refresh other players internet lines. Only players can refresh their own line by clicking the circle arrow button located in the top left corner of the lobby.

If players tell you or start doing it, tell them to go to this site & this topic.http://cncmaps.net/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif

How do you know of the assumption of other players and whether or not that actually affects their position on the list? I went to the linked site and found nothing as to that not affecting the position of a game on the list. Secondly, I have seen people make messages to the lobby from games, though I'm not sure what you are saying with this (That paragraph was rather unintelligible). Can you clarify?

I'm not sure what you mean. Can you retype that paragraph in more understandable terms?

refreshing does work actually. you've just explained sandbox mode, which happens when you're in a game-room by yourself, or the only other players in that room are all on the same team.

it's hardly an issue anyway, and doesn't deserve a thread. go find something better to do.
