Does anyone know where the .str file for zero hour is? It would be nice if I could moddify it. I've looked all through the game directory but couldn't find it.

Please help!

STR files are used in ZH for text strings in single-player missions. If you're looking to modify the description for a unit or something, download the CSF editor here. (http://www.cncden.com/cncgen_utility_downloads.shtml) You'll find it towards the bottom of the page.

Ah, thank you. But is there a way to turn the ,csf into a regular .str file? I would like to look at it so I see the name of the text string & under that, the text string.

Hmmm, no I dont think there's a way to a string in the csf file directly to a str. But you can do this: Make a new str file in notepad and copy the name of the string on the left side of the screen into the first line. Then copy the stuff in the Value box into the second line, in quotes. Like so:

OBJECT:Comanche
"Comanche"
END

I'm not quite sure if this is waht you're looking for or not.

I see. But I thought you might want to know that after downloading the generals utilities, the "Generals" str file appeared in the Data folder of the Generals directory. (It obviosly came with the utilities.) But when I dowloaded these I accidently put them in the the Zero Hour directory, so then I had to reistall the game & put the utilities into the Generals directory. After doing that & mabey some other stuff, I found an str file called "ZeroHour.str" located in the Data folder of the Zero Hour directory. Later I had to reistall Zero Hour for some other reason & lost that file.

So I don't know exactly how it got there. Do have any suggestions on how the Zero Hour str file got in that game directory?

Another modifyer gave me a link to a place where this other guy found the same file. But it's called "generals.str" In my expirence, the csf editor would always scramble some of the strings such as the hints you see after each game or the disconnect menu. This generals.str it much better, it's in not pad format & written the same way we create map.str files. Here's the link: http://forum.cncreneclips.com/index.php?showtopic=9494

I'm confused on what you're saying. Are you talking about Map.str files?
