View Full Version : Lion's Daily Blurb - Mon., April 30
My Monday got off to a rather dismal start. The only things I had planned to do today was head off to the local landfill to dump off a load of old shingles from a roof we removed last week, and then mow my yard. Everything went fine right up until I poured my second cup of coffee. I planned on taking it with me on my trip to the landfill site. So I placed it on the table, then did a double-check to make sure I had everything I needed...coat, hat, gloves. AHHAA! cell phone. Almost forgot the cell phone. Can't leave home without it. I grabbed the cell phone (it was sitting near the coffee cup). Just as I passed it over the coffee cup to put it into my pocket, it slipped out of my hands and went into that full cup of coffee. YIKES! Obviously cell phone and soap manufacturers are in cahoots together. I fished the sucker out, but needless to say, it ain't working anymore. I tried using a hair dryer on it, but to no avail. You'd think for $150 it would be water-proof ya know. Heck, it went through that head on collision I had with a tractor-trailer last May. The back cover flew off of it, and suffered a few scratches, but otherwise kept working. I was proud of that cell phone. The only thing left to do is play taps and get a replacement, a water-proof one this time. :gnarly:

Well, that's Murphy's Law for you. What can go wrong will go wrong. Yea, you might want to get a waterproof one next time, eh? ;)

Man, Lion, you really need a waterproof cellphone! My friend once lost his phone when he dropped it into a basin filled with water when he was doing a school science project! The water was clean, but his phone wasn't waterproof so everything was destroyed - including his girlfriend's phone number!:D

I've had this before aswell, my cell fell into a puddle of muddy water. Taking off the covers, keys, SIM card and battery, then let it dry a day or two. Leave it in the sun an hour or so aswell - should get rid of the water. Hopefully it'll work after that!
*If* you'll have to buy another one, what kind of cell will you go for?

I got smoked with a mobile in my shoulder pocket at AIT, during a rainstorm, in a mud puddle. The thing got drenched, I mean I might as well have put it in the puddle straight out. However I removed the battery, and when I got back to the barracks I dried it off and let it sit for about 3 days.
The screen is no longer backlit, but the phone works fine.

Hi Lion,
That's a bummer, drowning your cellphone like that! At least it was a quick death for the phone :D
It happened to me a while ago, although not with coffee. I put the phone in my swimming pants but forgot to take it out when I went into the water  Unscrewed and took apart the whole thing, then left the circuitboard in 97% alcohol for a day (this will get rid of any stains/minerals that's left behind by water, which may cause a short-circuit). Then I let everything dry for another day and waddayaknow: a working phone! Good luck!

Motorola needs to come up with a ruggedized, green colored, CnC Kane edition cellphone. Then them suckers would never die. ;)

 Bummer! I had a similar experience...however, mine fell into a toilet. Try explaining that to your boss! Of course the restroom was so small you had to go outside to change your mind. At any rate, there were not able to fix it either and I had to get a new one. I guess it was not worth the effort to fish it out of the toilet knowing that it probably was not going to work.

Wow it's been almost a year since the accident already?
You should get something like the Motorola i355. Very rugged.
"All weather and rugged design certified to Military Standard 810 F for dust, shock, vibration, temperature extremes, low pressure, and solar radiation"
Although I think it is only available for people with a Nextel service plan.
