View Full Version : Miners don't return to refinery, they just drive around.

In a few of the maps we have made, this funny thing happens.

We built a couple of ore refineries in different places in the map. At some point ore miners don't drive to their near-by refinery, but decide to go all across the map to another refinery to dump the ore.

It seems, though not sure, this happens more often with ore refineries that are near the edge of the map.

Building more ore refineries to allow the miners to choose a alternative one does not help at all. It just ends up in having your ore miners driving in straight lines from left to right across the map not delivering ore at all anymore.

Anyone seen this bug before? Any suggestions as to what might be going on?

are theese refineries player-built? do the harvesters EVER dump the ore at theese refineries of which you speak? and if not, the problem is probably that you have placed theese refineries too close to the edge of the editing field. remember to stay well within the blue lkine on your editor. If theese refineries are player built tho i can't help you.

Yes these are player built.

The exact moment the ore trucks go wild is not known, it just happens at a certain point. the ore refinery that i built (player built) has its own ore truck, which collects ore, and i think the first time or so it dumps ore in the refinery but after that no more, it chooses another refinery (preferably straight to the opposite of the map). or something like that.

My feeling is that it might have something to do with building a refinery and putting it too close to the border, indeed. weird stuff.

Other miners wont go back to a refinery that is already going to be occupied by another miner.

yes, they will hogo, have you ever seen a line of harvesters at a refinery, one by one unloading and the rest waiting at a corner at the back of the building? It happens all the time... i do believe though that it could somehow be your map, or you are simply building your refineries too far away... i dunno, thats pretty weird tho...

Not for me they just search for a vacant refinary.

Yea miners search for nearest empty refinery, and then if there are no free ones they wait at the nearest one.

Yes, that i do recognize. But to rule out this possibillity i tested buliding multiple ore refineries around a large patch of ore, making sure no other miners were 'queued up' for one of them, and sending out 1 ore miner on the patch. After it filled itself up, it went to the other side of the map, thus ignoring the multiple close ore refineries it could use.

It could even then have chosen any other free ore refinery on the map, all would have been closer then the one it picked - all the way across the map. basically the patch is at the extreme left side of the map, the position the minder drove to is at the extreme right side of the map. So it seems like some kind of 'wrap around' logic is going on, that it considers that opposite position to be 'near' (as it would be if the level would wrap-around).

What also suggested this might be related to it is that in some sense there seems to be some 'wrap around' logic going on, because at some points in level editing i noticed when leveling ground at the extreme edges of the level sometimes a few patches of ground level in the same move at the extreme opposite side of the map.

Weird problem though, i realise that. Just wanted to share it with you and hear if maybe some one experienced this stuff before :)

you got some weird-ass version of FA2 if it does that to you. Maybe thats the problem.
