View Full Version : Is there a way to GUARD a unit?

Is there any way to guard a specific unit? In the convoy escort missions, I was really missing a simply guard command to have my units guard, and auto-follow the selected unit. Since they had this in the other games, it seems weird for it to have been removed from this one. Is it there? If so, how do I initiate it?

It was never really useful, it was taken out in Generals if I recall.

I sometimes found it pretty convenient in the old days, letting some helis or a few tanks guard my harvesters from enemy raids. Nothing is more frustrating then a few tanks ripping up your harvy's when your tanks are on the other side of the map...

I usually put some stealth tanks or in case of gdi, some zone troopers eround an external field (along with some apc of course)

I used the option in Single Player alot, in Multiplayer it's rather useless :wtf:

I used to love the guard command and found it useful on many occasions. Somebody needs to suggest it to EA to see if they can put it in with a patch or expansion.

in wc3, when you move a group of units to a location, they form an envoy, e.g heavy tanks would be at the front, weaker units and arty at the back and centre, etc and they would move at the speed of the slowest unit in the group.

If a guard feature with similar features were to be implemented, that'd be great.

That's kind of...already there.
Formation Move - Hold both mouse buttons, set formation, then release. Must be done at target destination.

that is a REALLY flawed feature.

The formation easily breaks up when some units move through to get to their postion in the formation, and units don't move in formation, they just get into formation at the spot you send them to.

Yhe i can see your point there Spider EA should do something about units not moving in formation when set in one.But what I usaly do is select the units and order the units to move from there curent formation into a the same formation somewhere else, so sorta still move in formation.Perhaps EA should entroduce a button where if you dont want you formation to losse shape you could use it a bit like the attack move button, so your foramation would still keep it shape and move.:)
