I'm not sure if I should comment on older threads (two to three years), some people complain that it's bad to bump old threads. So, should I just post a new thread on the same topic?

Welcome to the forums. :)

I'm not picky about my threads. I cannot speak for the other members though.

I made that mistake when I saw an old thread (The playlist thread) in the listing below showing "popular" or such threads below and got 2 neg reps for bumping a 6+ month old thread.. :flamed:

Perhaps there should be a policy of locking threads older than 4-6 months old with a week of no new posts to it.

Well there are sometimes legitimate reasons for reviving old threads, but don't bump a thread just because you want to say something.

:squint: There is nothing wrong with bumping up old threads, but it depends on what subject.

:rockbrow: For that matter, neg-repping just because you bumped up an old thread just shows how immature some people here can be.....:dork:

Reviving an old thread to make a comment when it won't make any difference is bad. If there's something you want to mention that's so important to you then it may even be better to create a new thread. Old threads aren't posted in any more usually because there is no interest in them. When you revive an old thread, it gets thrown back to the top of the forum. It's usually dead for a reason!
