I am having a strange problem. I have played ZH for a while... took a break, uninstalled the game. Recently reinstalled. The game plays great... except for one thing.. Ctrl-(1-9) grouping does not work.
I select a few units, hold down the CTRL key, hit the number 1, and... nothing. I hit the 1 key to test the grouping, nothing is selected. I can click on a unit, there is no number above them.
Please help, as grouping is essential to effective game-play.
Thanks,

Intresting problem. Your either doing something wrong or you have a problem with some settings or keybored. Since you haven't played in a while you may have forgot something. Here's somes steps on how you should do it:
1) Select you unit(s)
2) Press & hold the ctrl button.
3) Now press a number of your choice.
4) Release both buttons, you should be able to recall that team by pressing the number you gave it.
If your doing this correctly then it might be a problem with the ctrl button. Try using the other ctrl button & see if that works. If your left ctrl button doesn't seem to work with the teams, try copying & pasting text on a program like on Notepad. ctrl+C = copy, ctrl+V = paste.
I'm no help with a settings problem but I'm sure other members are.

Thanks, but my CTRL key definately works... and how can you do CTRL+1 incorrectly... I have tried it every way possible.
I do have a Logitech G15 gaming keyboard. I don't know if that has anything to do with it. I didn't set anything special for ZH.
Still doesn't work. All help is appreciated.

I do have one more suggestion.
Try uninstalling both Generals & Zero Hour. Now go & delete both of the game directories. (They're in the following folder: "C:\Program Files\EA Games") Now go to the folder "My Documents\Command & Conquer Generals Zero Hour Data" & delete all the files in there (you can leave the folders undeleted if you like. If you have any costum maps, then don't delete the "Maps" folder because that's where they're located. You can also leave the "Skirmish" file there, that holds the information for the metals you've earned playing skirmish games.) Now reinstall both games. Note: You'll have to reselect your preferred options, & retype your nickname & stuff to log onto Generals Online again.
Hopefully it'll work after you do that.

I think grouping went away to fix the scud bug.

No, it definately didn't, because I grouped my factories. Don't know what the problem is, but if you have a G15 keyboard (which is really quite unnecessary anyways) then you might have somehow configured it wrong.

When you downloaded the patch, did you get it by clicking on "CHECK FOR UPDATES" on the game menu that comes up after you put in the CD? Or did you download it from a website?

From the EA website...http://www.ea.com/official/cc/generals/us/demos.jsp
The North American Patch 1.04
Still don't understand what gives. Is there another patch beyond 1.04?

well, try uninstalling Zero Hour again (Without uninstalling generals & deleting their game directories.) & reinstall. Now take out & put the CD, A window should come up. (If it doesn't, then go to "My Computer" & click on the generals file.) Click on, "CHECK FOR UPDATES". It will then install the 1.04v patch. I should work now, I hope.

I still say its most likely soemthing with your G15. And your story about reinstalling the game makes me believe that even more. For good measure check your keyboard settings that you don't have anything configured for ZH.
