View Full Version : The little post count thingy.

I didn't notice the post counter for a while but then someone pointed it out. I thought it was a neat little thing and I used it to limit myself to a certain number of posts a day. But recently, my number hasn't changed. I posted something a few days ago and it said 401. I have made at least half a dozen posts in that time and it still says 401. I don't know if this is a glitch or perhaps if I did something that caused this to happen or if some super mod needed entertainment...:p...but can someone help me?

EDIT: this post seemed to count though... :shifty: ... but none of the others do.

I've no idea why you think a post count is, "a neat little thing", but let me state now that Moderators don't bother with "entertainment" of this calibre. In fact I wouldn't know how to change someones post count except by deleting a whole thread. Perhaps this is what happened to you? Who knows or cares? :p

I believe the posts you made in threads that are removed from members' views do not count towards your post count. I clearly remember seeing myself with 2999 last night posts, and then I found myself back down to 2992 or so this morning. Most of my posts from last night were removed, so that's what I figure did the trick.

Yeah, I think its something like that. Keep watching it and you will probably see it go up as usual.

If not, a Mod has hacked your account to freeze your post count :p (eL did that on AFT2)

500 lets you modify your custom user title... other than that, the only thing it does is make your e-penis bigger :\

As I said before, Moderators do NOT have the power to freeze post counts, that is something for Admins to do. eL was I believe, an Admin on AFT2 so he would have had access.

A number of threads have been hard-deleted since the recent, um, events. Since your post count reflects the number of your posts that exist on the boards, not the number of times you've actually posted, your count will have gone down if you were involved in those threads at all. Apologies :p

El was a admin and "Freeze Postcounts" was also a hack i made myself for vBulletin 3.0.0 and isnt available for 3.5.x and onwards, purely becuase the way postcounts are handled within vBulletin changed to xml script in 3.5.0, and i havn't yet had time to work out how to recreate my original hack yet.

So i can safely tell you, no moderator or admin on DGNF has the ability to freeze your postcount :p

However, if posts are hard-deleted and then the postcounter is ran from the admin cp, it will deduct those posts from your count accordingly, but the board will not do this automatically.

some technologically brilliant mod could make a program that would delete the oldest post that user has made every time he posts so his old posts would be R E P L A C E D by new ones, instead of added.

that could seriously mess up the database though

Not only that but you wouldn't actually gain anything from it, seeing as your postcount would neither increase or decrease :p
