I'm rather curious as to what everybody here thinks is the single best BO to use, especially if you're playing on an unfamiliar map, or aren't sure as to what your enemy may do.

Personally, I tend to start my game like this:

1. Crane - Expansion vehicle
2. Ref - powerplant
3. barracks - power plant, sometimes an engie as well (esp. if I see a tech building or two nearby)

From this point onward, I tend to diversify myself quite a lot, so I won't go listing.

So what do you think? Is it sound, or could it use some improvements???

Technically, crane strats are most vulnerable to the shadow team rush, but otherwise they are the safest opening move. Against Nod, you have to choose between a disadvantage in initiative during the early game or the mid game

Personally, if going for a crane strat, I'd train a second ref before anything, then make a wf, if scrin then make a nerve center.

Crane, Ref x4, WF (how ever many you need), Ref x2

Derek, I don't think the early game economy (let alone the cranes) can support THAT many refs in the early game, man.:uhh:

And besides, if you're talking about the 'Ref x2, then sell one ref' strat, that's gonna become pretty useless once the patch comes out.

Yes, but he never said "In v1.05".

I usually go something like this

1. Crane - Expansion Vehicle
2. Ref - Power Plant
3. Ref - Ref (one for sell, one for the expansion)
4. WF - Barracks (pump out MBTs and perhaps a harvester)
4.5 (if tiberium spikes are near) some engies
5. WF - Anti Infantry defense(for expansion)
6. pump out vehicles

From there it depends on the situation.

why does no one use any air in early game?

why does no one use any air in early game?

You can decide the outcome of wars with air superiority, but to effectively win them you have to send the troops in to occupy the land.

Since air units have limited ammo, it means they are not to be in the front while reloading, ground units doens't have that problem. Plus you have to tech up a little more than you have to build ground units.

...Air support means nothing if there is nothing to support.

To me air units are combat-effective and cost-effecive only in mid and late game.

those nod choppers eat infantry (which most ppl don't make, but hey... they can detect stealth as well)

GDI air can do quite a lot of damage against tanks, why make 'm? because the average nod spammer doesn't use AA, and your choppers are fast too

scrin air doesn't need to reload, quite fun harassing harvys n tanks

I know, good players always make AA if they spot the enemy making air-units...

but then again... me = n00b :D

With That BO you can catch some people off guard. But if they have anti stealth thats some money wasted.

played against a brutal steamroller the other day, which kept spamming infantry and aircraft

setup two shadowteams, which eliminated everything the enemy sent @ me... laughed VERY hard

then the steamroller foudn out that their strat wasn't usefull, so they sent more airplanes and aircraft...

quite fun I had :D

I think the absolute best BO is the ST rush.

pp
barracks
shrine - call in 2 st's - go attack crane with them
refinery - be building 3 st's, once theyre done sell shrine, so you have 6 st's
refinery - sell
war factory - pump scorpions

Its awsome!! I seriously cant beat a good shadow team rush, and if you cant beat emm, join emm! This is so much fun, turrets are hopeless against my sts :D and if they get enough turrets to be useful (i cut their power usually) they got 5 scorpions on their harvester and all they have is 5 anti infantry turrets to fight them off with :D fantastic!

Long live unfairness :D Also its funny but ive never been shadow team rushed since i started doing it myself. Coincidence probably.

Well i wasent sure if i should post a new thread or not but for the mean while i will use this one.My problem is not knowing what sort of build order to go with in the new pach, i tend to go
1.crane survayor
2.pp ref
3.ref(for expansion) WF >3 Harvester
4WF>SPAM some thing Barracks > spam rocket troops

If any of you dont mind could you post your build orders and a few tactics to go with them :)

As Scrin on generic maps:
Reactor + Explorer
Portal > Extractor
WS (2 harvs)
Extractor
Foundry
NC. I dunno if it's good, but it works for me. Usually then I make either 4 GS or something along those lines and back up the seeker spam i already have on the move.

As Nod and GDI I'm still pretty clumsy, but with Nod vs. GDI on heavily urban maps, I've been experimenting with an alternative BO: PP > Rax > 3 Ref > Crane > 2 Rax > OC > secret shrine > rax > crane > defense spam

No War Factory, but you get to pile the urban centers full of infantry, constantly pushing forward with Black Hands, Fanatics, and garrisoned rockets, take over a lot of tech buildings quickly (I can't remember the name of the map I perfected this BO on, it's the second official map, and it gives you a lot of spikes to take over), and as long as you're on a map with such distance and distraction between the bases, you can relax for the first few minutes.

Lots of technology
Blacks big Battle?
First map I played against AI on skirmish, spooked me when they actually responded to me garrisoning the structures in the middle and built flame tanks
