problem with game resolution

I have an annoying problem with the game resolution. In the main menu I type "HIRES" to get access to 1280x1024 resolution (which looks pretty good) however many times when I go to play a quickmatch it says "Game is limited to 640 x 400 (or something) resolution (yuck) would you like yo switch now?" and then when I go to the options I see the resolution field is blank and the high resolution is gone. To fix it i usually reboot the game and type "HIRES" again. I edited ra2.ini and ramd.ini with the new resolution but that didnt seem to help. This can be quite annoying having to reboot the game so many times any idea how to fix this?

Sometimes other people lock the resolution input, so you will have to match what they have.

I dont think this is related to other's people resolutions since I am quite sure noone is playing nowadays on such low resolution (640x400 or something)

plus this sometimes happens before I even play against somebody- I go check the resolution in the options and its blank.

There's a easy solution, just host the game, you won't have to change the resolution.

But everytime I try to join any game it asks me to use 640/400. Also, it seems to be locked my default, when I tried to host a game with my friend, even though I was playing at max, he still has to change to 640/400... how does that work??? :(

I am not sure at what point I "Lose" the resolution it appears to be random. against the same opponent it will ask me to change resolution to 640/400 and then when I log back in and type hires again it will let me play with the high resolution. When I check the options in the menu the screen resolution is always blank.

Any clue whats causing this? It can be pretty annoying sometimes since I have to exit the game and come back in and hope it will accept my high resolution :) its seems to be random

I tried reinstalling and deleting the ini file but no good

Does that patch work for custom matches and lan as well?

There would be noramlly no problems with lan or custom match resolutions, except if the host limits the resolution.

Talking About Res How can I make the resolution higher that the 1024X what ever. Also can you play TFD in windowed mode i know YR can normal but i don't know about TFD anyone?

the patch was not relevant for me since it was for RA2 I tried it anyway and it didnt solve my problem any other ideas?

here is a recap of my problem:

I launch Yuri's Revenge and am in main menu
I go to options, and I see the resolution field is BLANK (already weird here since I keep setting it to 1280x1024 every time I launch the game. Why is it BLANK. I dont see the high resolution in the drop down list)
I type 'HIRES' (and here the 'Ching' sound)
I go to options, and I see the resolution field is back at 1280x1024 (which is what I want)
I click on "Quickmatch"
when a match it found, sometimes it will join with the high resolution, and sometimes it will ask me to change to 640x400. This does not have to do with the other player since against the same player it will join sometimes and sometimes ask for the resolution change.
If I click 'cancel' and go back to main menu to look at my resolution the field is blank again.

Oh so it's for YR ? I thought it was for RA2 b/c you tried to edit the ra2.ini and not the ra2md.ini.
I'm sorry to say I don't know an other solution. Try to ask at the xwis forums once they are back up (they have some problems with hackers).

... I know that for RA2 it is required to play quickmatches in 640x480 but for YR i have no idea why it is requiring you to change your res. try just running it in 1024x840. it should be fine in that res and i find that infantry are too small in 1280x1024.
