I'm not new to RA/YR, but I'm new to editing it. I've edited other games before and have a basic knowledege. In fact I've tried editing the rules.ini file and that didn't work. What I'd like to do is raise the cost of the Chaos Drone to $2500. Any suggestions would be appreciated. :)

go to edit > find
search [dron]
when you get it look for something that says cost= and write cost=2500

I would suggest using word pad because it doesn't ask you to designate if you are searching up or down like notepad does.

I tried to edit it in rules.ini with word pad, and it saved it. But it still shows a cost of $800. Is the rules.ini file the correct file? Thanks.:)

No. You need rulesmd.ini and the right identifier, which is [CAOS].

So that makes Dron the terror drone right. Yup just checked it out what do you use to edit Fenring?

He uses notepad just like most of us do. Notepad - simple, effective and hassle-free.

I'm sorry, I was in rules.ini. not rulesmd.ini. I downloaded the rulesmd.ini with the editing guide and was having some issues saving what I edited in it. I'm not able to find rulesmd in my westwood/ra2 file.
Also would it matter if I'm running Deezires mod?
Thanks for the help guys, I'm a little lost.:freek:

Yes, a mod would be an issue.
The rules(md) file is not floating in the directory; it's in the mix files.

Fenring,
Okay, Whatever I did I had to re-install. Even after correcting it back to it's original values.

all you have to do is download the rulesmd file, open it, and search for [CAOS] and change the cost= to 2500

NO! God! Why do people insist on telling people to "download the INI files"?
DO IT THE RIGHT WAY! Get the XCC utilities, explore the mix files a bit, learn about them, extract your files and edit them as needed.
[EDIT] Never, never, never, never, NEVER open a mix file in a text editor. If you don't know what you're doing, you'll **** it up.

Fenring,
I've been busy with some other stuff for the past couple weeks and haven't had a chance to mess with it. But, I did get the XCC Utilities after I had already tried to edit with wordpad and had to reload the game... DOH LOL.
I'm sure I'll be back with more questions when I get time to mess with the mix files.
 Thanks again.
