View Full Version : Lion's Weekend Blurb - June 2-3
The BIG stir in the news this week was the dude who was globe-trotting on commercial planes whilst infected with a dangerous strain of tuberculosis. According to THIS STORY (http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,276975,00.html), Andrew Speaker was told he wouldn't pose a danger to anyone he came in contact with, but was advised by doctors and others not to fly. The US government has since quarantined him, the first time that has happened to a US citizen since 1963. Many of the passengers on the same flights with him are obviously concerned for their health now, and justifiably so. Strangely, his new wife doesn't seem to be concerned that her husband has tuberculosis. She knew that before she got hitched, so I dunno what to make of the situation. He has issued an apology, but is that enough? Is Andrew Speaker (who's ironically a personal injury lawyer) guilty of anything, other than maybe using poor judgment, and would you have felt safe sitting on a plane next to him?

How would he not pose a danger? TB is a highly contagious disease. :wtf:

Shows a lack of common sense and apparently is an extremely selfish individual.

Apparently his rare, multi-drug resistant form was not highly contagious, at least not at his stage. Or so I've heard.
I wouldn't feel safe sitting next to him, of course, but the fact that his wife is apparently uninfected (her father's a TB researcher at the CDC, ironically, so I suppose he'd have tested her), despite being on her honeymoon with him, should tell you that, rationally, you have nothing to fear. ;)
The only real lapse of judgement, IMO, is when he ignored the CDC's order to isolate himself in Rome, and instead sneaked a flight to Canada, then over the border to the US. That by itself makes me think he's  and makes me feel :flame: towards him, but at least he hadn't gone abroad knowing how bad it really was, I suppose.

He deserves to be shot or fined thousands for his poor judgment.
