basically....what kind of units am i looking to build/avoid? and what is a good building order?
i will play as GDI
i'm sorry for the vagueness....but i have never played this game in my life so i'm not really sure where to get started. any help is most appreciated!

Do the SP campaing, you must get to know what a unit/building does before these questions can be fully answered. Otherwise you'll end up knowing such answers without knowing why those are the answers.

Good choice, GDI is the way!;)

He doesn't have the luxury to play campaign, he's going to LAN, durh. APC's and rocket infantry do wonders, as do upgraded Mammoth tanks (though it is very expensive and timely to get them as strong as you want). Just mix and match, find out what'll work.

1.05 might be released by then, and we don't know what's going to be effective.
Try mixing snipers with Predators in the early game; apparently that's going to be unstoppable.

Just make Predators. Predators and more predators. It'll be the most effective strat that doesn't involve any significant learning. If one of your opponents does figure out to build aircraft though, then build pitbulls.

Aye.
I would deploy a rig by your refineries, though. Aside from that, but Predators, until you can build mammoths. I also suggest Firehawks, if you get the chance. Use them to make life difficult for your opponent.
Derek

Neither of those two are neccessary at the level of play he will be at. Rigs aren't even neccessary at high levels of play, although they can help. Firehawks are good when used well, I doubt he could use them too well without practice.

Tell everyone else that your an expert in c&c 3 and infantry totally kick ass in it, and that they should build tons of infantry. If you have gullible friends then its an easy win :) Worked for me, cept my friend was actually on my team so it worked against me mostly.
Other than that, yea what derek said pred spam.

And then 1.05 comes out and all his friends listen to him while he listens to us and all his Predators die to rocket infantry artillery

#1 Build a crane and if 1.5 is not out yet beware of power plants and refineries. Make sure to scout. Without the 1.5 this may be the only RTS game in history where no war factory or barracks is needed to win.

You need to play Star Wars: FOC then.:p

Then try rushing with the Droidekas for the ZC: if you can do it under a minute, I swear you'll never need to build anything else to kill your enemy!

I go all-air with scrin in all team matches, building my WS and Portal after my fouth GS so we can gang or enemies land + air one by one. That counts as no rax or wf, right? :p

cheers for all the help (predator spam worked well :color4:)
but yeah, this is pretty n00bular, but are there any structures on this game that produce money/credits? (stuff like hackers+blackmarkes+supply drop zones on zh)
other than the pumps and tiberium fields, it seems like there's no other way of getting cash, the last game i played lasted ages because no one had any money left

I don't know the version you play, but whatever it is, GDI is a good starting. You should read the tips carefully of each unit and building, especially the "good vs ... ..."
After you have played several times, you then need to know that build order.
Occupying the public tib fields is the most important thing to beat an advanced player... so surveyor and crane first, then directly build radar and tech center then sonic emitter to guard your surveyor.

GDI is basically the only faction that doesn't have a way to speed up the growth of tiberium, unlike Nod (tiberium seed bomb) or the Scrin (growth accelerators). Play as the other two if you want a regenerative economy.

i played a game online couple days ago (GDI VS GDI). i use engineer in apc captured their construction yard and sold it. guy got 1 war factory and 1 barrack at his main and his expansion field. pretty much he spammed rocket soldiers and basic infantry and i had army of praditor tank and apc, and 2 warfactories constantly spamming apc. and was no match for his infantry army. so ya. i think it might be a good strategy vs gdi. or maybe just i totally don't know what other unit does.

There are no such buildings in C&C3:TW, there are tiberium spikes in some maps though you can capture to gain additional cash.
Think EA did that to discourige turteling :\, shame though but ther's usually enough tiberium to go around and the match has to end sometime

there is basically no need for such , tib grows pretty fast, and if u take it up too fast u have built 1 to many harvies...

Heres something I would reccomend while playing GDI (and Scrin)
Build two tiberium refineries if you are playing against a Nod player, their catalyst missile can take out a refinery in one shot, and if you are low in funds, well, that other refinery can save your econamy
TIP - Do not put the two refineries too close to eachother otherwise a catalyst missile will take out both

1. Expand economy to large widths.
2. Pump up your base defenses.
3. Prepare an army that kicks ass.
4. Commence kicking of ass.

You forgot 5. Lose.
Here is a better idea:
1. Spam economy
2. Spam tanks
3. Fast tech
4. Spam T3 tanks
Of course, that is only for n00bs (since thats what this threadis about). Against better players you have to be more creative with your spamming.

That was more or less the whole point of the Mammoth tank ever since its creation, really...:|

Spamming is a gay, n00b tactic. Don't do it unless your that much of a n00b.

Really, if you don't want to fight with a lot of units, play Paraworld. In C&C, armies get large.
