View Full Version : Lion's Daily Blurb - Thurs., June 21
Summer in my neck of da woods arrived back in May, but Thursday is the official start of the summer season, also known as the Summer Solstice, the longest day of the year. Temps have been hovering in the low 90's this week, so there's no mistaking what season we're in. What is unusual this year is the intensity of the thunderstorms we've had lately where I live. For instance, twice this week thunderstorms have produced hail and winds in excess of 60MPH. It's happened several times since May as well. I say it's unusual because I live near mountains, and they normally break up those low-riding storms before they reach me. Storms lately are much more powerful than in previous years. I'm wondering if perhaps Mother Nature is being trained by Al Qaeda. :wtf:

We have been having the same weather here. Today there was tornados and hail reported about bout 20 miles away. The hail was golf ball size, and wind were about 60 mph. Luckily it was north of me, so I just got alot of rain and some wind. Sounds ike the temp will climb to about 92 over the next few days.

Well enjoy the T-storms big guy! :hyper: We haven't had any measurable rain since January I think. Some thunderstorms would be great about now. The lightning could light the really dry brush and it would make the al Queda camps look like a play ground. Do you realize what Hurricane Katrina did to a city and al Queda hasn't even come close to doing. Nature is a pretty strong force to be reckoned with thats fer sure.

Same thing here Lion, North of the Border....
I lived here most of my adult life aside from where my job took me, never seen the intensity of storms ever.... like we have had this and last summer...
60 to 80 mph winds are unheard of in these parts. Hail and trees down, i only seen 2 times in 40 years here.
Global Warming is here to stay unless something drastic changes. .

I hate to bust your bubble but this is not caused by global warming. Its called a storm, its nothing unusual.

I'm sure its playing some part in storm intensity...
I've noticed this year to be a very strange year out of 21years on this earth. Hopefully, it doesn't get worse. I'd hate to see what it'd be like then O,o;

Yeah, 21 years is a really long time when compared to the Earth's estimated 4.5 billion year history.
Trends in weather happen.
Anyways, as Derek said. It's just a storm. Weee. Personally, up here in Indiana we need the rain pretty badly.

bah, weve had an ice age, weve actually never seen another planet develop, it may end like the Ice Age, I call it the Heat Wave, but then again, maybe Im just in a fantasy world over here where it is over 100 almost every morning (sandals burned to plain melted material... can't.... stand..... on the ground!!!)

huh, 21 years as opposed to my 44 years at this point. Young un's....pffft...:P
All i know is this: all my years aint never seen this weather where i live like this.
Compare that with whats gone on in the rest of the World, the largest Glacier in the Antarctic cracking in half and some of it disappearing, half the glaciers in Iceland, Greenland, some in Europe disappearing.... Seasons that are 2 months behind......We didnt have Winter here until February this past year, when normally we get 6 feet of snow in December. It was a green Christmas, never, ever happened in my lifetime here. Windstorms that uproot tress and did millions of dollars of damage last summer here, never, ever, in this City's history has that ever happened, dating back to the early 1800's when it was 1st built....
You tell me that something isnt amiss.......smart aleck kids i tell ya... :P

The weather here has been not to violent, but abundant. I think we've had more rain in the past few weeks than we've had in a while. Here in Oklahoma, a couple of weeks ago the roads actually flooded so bad that just about every road into Bartlesville had to be closed. Also, if I remember right most of the highway 75 was closed also because it was flooded also. Both the Copan and Hulah dam flood gates had to be opened. It was a pretty bad deal. Didn't think I'd make it to work for a while, but the storms quit and we didn't get anymore that night so we got luckily. If it did rain more, it could have been the worst flood on record for Bartlesville. Rain and storms are a good thing but sometimes enough is enough.

Boy I have never seen such hysteria in my life. If the press says something long enough and loud enough you all believe it like it is truth. To quote the great Derek, "it is just a storm". We have only been here a short time on this planet, how do we know what is NORMAL weather? Every year it seems different than the rest.
I say enjoy it, because in So Cal where I live it is either foggy or sunny. No rain, no storms, maybe a wind storm (hot Santa Ana winds), earthquakes and fires. I say bring on the storms. Let it rain.........

Mmmhmm, same here. As well as in some other states and even countries, as I heard from my friends. I wonder if it's just a temporary "trend" of weather or a sign of things to come. Terrible things, destructive things, the-end-of-the-world things... ahem, anyways...

yes, what is a normal day of weather?
Probably what I said, and it might go back to freezing, but of course, sun rays that are effected by decline in ozone isn't helping much, is it?
For or for not for? I confused myself...

The only thing the ozone effects significantly is UV rays, which don't contribute in any significant way to heat.
This is what I hate about the whole global warming debate, I have no strong opinions on it but I'm fine with those who do one way or the other. But what really gets me is how many people don't even know what the **** they're talking about and just spew out whatever random crap they heard on the latest radio talkshow. If you're going to debate, thats fine, in fact I encourage it, there is a lot of material out there for either side of the arguement, but if you're not even going to educate yourself on what the terms and catchphrases mean, then don't try to argue!
/me hands soapbox back to Trixie.

I stand corrected, uv rays rn't bad for the weather (as far as I read) but indeed bad for us!!! They can cause cancer and sunburn, of course tho, we don't see how little something it is until it becomes news or such... like something on edge of extinction on a endangered list but before that on verge of endangered list...
Edit: hey, that line is scripted for whoever who says it... Cool!
