View Full Version : Lion's Weekend Blurb - June 22-24
I imagine most of ya that frequent the DEN are familiar with the Duke University rape case that involved the lacrosse team, and that Mike Nifong, the district attorney who was prosecuting the case was disbarred for various reasons including withholding evidence and ethics violations. You'll find all the news stories about that HERE (http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,285998,00.html). The three players who were falsely accused don't think that was enough punishment for Mr. Nifong. They want his hide, or in this case, criminal charges brought against him. I suppose one can hardly blame them though, but does the punishment fit the crime? Mr. Nifong has no job, can't practice as a lawyer, has been thoroughly embarrased on national TV, and with have to live with this ridicule for the rest of his life. On top of that, he's being sued by those players for the cost of their lawyer fees. I'm sure they'll win, and Nifong will probably be flat broke soon. On the flip side we have those three players that were accused of something they didn't do, and their lives and their families lives have been turned upside down. Nifong is already down for the count, and not likely to recover anytime soon...do we kick him some more, or has he suffered enough punishment that balances out his sins?

I personally believe that he (Mr. Nifong) should have to pay at least some of their lawyer fees simply because he drug their names through the dirt for no reason. Although I also agree that once he down on the ground don't keep kicking and hitting, the public embarrassment will do more damage in the long run.

Maybe Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson or Malik Zulu Shabazz will cover their lawyer fees as they spent so much effort demonizing and criminalizing these men.
Oh, that'll never happen. When the rich white kids were still considered GUILTY before proven innocent for raping a poor black chick they were all over the place getting their names in the news.
Now that it turns out the poor black chick is just a dirty whore and the rich white kids are innocent (and now left ruined) they are as far away from the story as humanly possible.
It boggles my mind that those three glorified ambulance chasers have such a huge following.
Well, I wouldn't call Malik an ambulance chaser, he's just a little

Due to the fact that the attorney is a man of public trust and he violated the ethics of his job, withheld evidence and generally acted in a way and attorney shouldn't, it is only reasonable for him to be punished to the full extent of the law.

Agree'd with Mikeal, but also, look at it this way; Nifong might at least be able to pick up some fragment of his life. These guys? They were accussed of rape, and that's about as bad as being convicted of it, in most people's eyes. They're done. They'll be hated and revilled simply for allegations set against them. So, yeah, kick Nifong a bit more. He messed up an already horrific experience for them.

I agree 100% with what SW said. That is, unfortunately, how society is: you are accused of that type of crime and, even with this scumbag admitting he was wrong in this case, you are still seen as if you were guilty. These poor kids will never have a good life because of this guy ever again. I'd say execute him, but that is a little extreme:D
take him to court. its always bad when people lie but sometimes they do stuff  it could have been for real you know, i think the 3 dudes will have left this stuff behind them in 10 years or so but 10 years is a long time :p

Ahh, a classic case of "what goes around, comes around." That's why people should be careful about firing up other people, even if they are not lawers.
