Ok,im too lazy to look for all of this seperately and to spell separately correct.
Every tut ive been to"Assumes" i know certain things, but im a beginner

1:How do i install my mod?I used FinalBIG.exe to extract my INI stuff
2:How do i duplicate A GLA building so that it could be built by a USA Dozer
3:I've added my personal music tracks to my Music file, but i want a certain initial song for the menu.
4:I also need to know(besides overuse of graphics) what causes mods to lagg/crash
5:Explain ALL of this to me like i dont even know what a mod is and i have ADD:freek::hyper:All i really CAN do is All the INI stuff such as editing build costs, build times, weapon sets, and a little more.
One of my main goals is Duplicating the Baikunur Roket so it can be built by the US,GLA,and China. But thats not all but i believe after my Duplicating question is answered i can figure it out, b/c im not computer ileterate

Shew! That's asking a lot! But I'll do my best to answer your questions. is this for Generals or Zero Hour? But it really won't matter much.

1) I beleive you want to know what to do with INI files you've already axtracted. Well, first check out what you see before the INI file name in FinalBIG. Some of them you'll see "Data\INI\" Others have "Data\INI\Object\". For an example, if you want to modify the "Locomotor.ini", look infront of it. You'll see "Data\INI\" That means the "Locomotor.ini" is in a folder called "INI" & that folder is in a folder called "Data". Now, when you place the Locomotor.ini in an "INI" folder & that in a "Data" folder in your game directory, (Not in the BIG file.) it will overight the file in the BIG file! So all you have to do is extract the "Locomotor.ini" to the "Data" folder of you game directory (it should already be there.) If you don't see an "INI" folder in the "Data" folder, then just create one & extract the "Locomotor.ini" file there! It will now overight the "Locomoter.ini" in the BIG file!
2) Open up the "CommandSet.ini". Nere the top, you'll see the command set for the USA Dozer, copy the building you see there that you want the worker to build. Now scroll down a little until you see the worker command set. The only avilable slot are 11 & 12 so paste the USA build between
10 = Command_ConstructGLACommandCenter
13 = Command_UpgradeGLAWorkerFakeCommandSet
these command buttons & change the command butten number to 11 or 12. Is this for buildings other then the USA power plant & the USA barracks? Because you'll need to modify the prerequisites for the rest of the building so that the GLA worker can build them. After doing this, you'll won't be able to play online unless another player has the same modifactions.
3) You'll need to extract the MAP file for the Shell Map (The map that plays behind the menu) with FinalBIG to the "Maps" folder of your game directory. Also put the MAP file in a folder with the same name. Now open up the world builder & open the "ShellMap" map. (In the Open menu, click on System Maps & you should see it there.) Now find the script that has the music & if you've modified the game currectly, you should see you song listed under the music clips.
4) The only thing I can think of that a mod with lag or crash the game, is what you said, overuse of grafics.

I really don't think you an modify the armies to build the rocket, you'll have to make it buildable by them, paste connstuction animation from other object, make it a super weapon. This is beyond what I know in modifing so I won't be able to help you about it.

I know, this post is old:dork:, but I've got some more questions.
1.How do i create another faction? Such as "Super weapon General"?
Like, where is the document containing the factions, because I'd like to create
my own faction from scrap, and put various items from various factions, and also create some of my own.
2.Adding custom pictures, such as photos or paints? How do i do that.

Thanks in advance,
Kommie

*Noob Alert*
After skimming the forum, this looked to be the closest correct place for my question. I'm sorry if it is not.
I am extremely new to modifying games (like ten hours new), but I am trying to change the build cost in my C&C Generals game. I think the problem is that I am using the First Decade package. I do exactly what I have read to do (use a hex editor to replace the buildcost amount in the ini.big file) but no go. After several attempts, I began to wonder if I was even in the right file. I deleted the ini.big file from the folder, and the game works fine.
What file should I open to change the build cost in generals, or any other games in the C&C First Decade package?
Is there a radical difference between editing costs between C&C Generals and C&C 1st Decade Generals?

:dunce: Much thanks for the help.

Next time, create a new thread for you question instead of replying to a different topic. To do this, go to the Generals | Zero Hour Modding (http://forums.cncden.com/forumdisplay.php?f=18) & click on "New Thread".

Any way, since you've opened the INI.big file, I assume you used FinalBIG. In the INI.big file, use any of the INI files in the "Object" folder. (The folders are in front of each of the INI files' names. There's each separated by a \ slash.) These hold the information about all the units for the game. Opening the files in Notepad, (You should extract them first for the BIG file.) search for the unit you want & then search "build cost". You should the cost there & your free to edit it.

Once you done with you changes, save the file in the directory in the corresponding folders you see it in the BIG file in the game directory. So if you want to save the AirforceGeneral.ini, check FinalBIG. You'll see "Data\INI\Object\" in front of it. So you need to save the file in the Object folder of your game directory which is in the INI folder & that's in the Data folder. (You won't see the Object folder in the INI folder though, that's okay, just create one with "Object" as its name.) If you editing & saving is good, then the changes will come up in the game.

If you want discard you changes, either delete, move, or rename the file & the file in the INI file will take over.

If I went to fast for you in some parts or somthing I said doesn't line up with what you seeing on your computer, let me know. But ask it in a new thread.

First of all, there shouldn't be any difference between Generals and the first decade version.

Now what is a "hex editor?" unless it can extract files from a .big file, you got the wrong program, buddy. Pick up the XCC mixer or FinalBIG or something.

now here's what you do:
in the ini.big file, extract the Data/INI/Object/FactionUnit.ini(for player-owned units)or FactionBuilding.ini(for buildings) then open in notepad, then use CTRL+F and type in the name of the unit or building, for instance, AmericaBarracks. Then look in the *Design Parameters* section, edit the Cost= flag to whatever you want. Then make sure the file is in your Data/INI/object folder and you are good to go if you did the coding right.

Thanks to you both. I have more questions, but I moved it to a new thread titled "Changing Unit Costs."
