I was Scrin in a 1v1 map, when I sent my mastermind to capture a neutral building called "Expansion Point", I don't know is there of any use of this building? No new building to construct, no new infantry to train, no new vehicle or aircraft to build, and itself weaponless......
How to use the Expansion Point??
:p

o god... don't u have a manual?
an expansion point is exactly what it says it is...
It just gives u the ability to build over where it is instead of sending an explorer and making an outpost...
plz refer to ur manual...
and use an engineer to capture it too...

Your probably talking about the building that just gives you more land to use, like a footprint around the captured building.
If you know what I mean !!

Yes, that is called ground support, thats what if gives u, additional ground support, similar to the conyards ground support...

The expansion post totally sucks though, since the amount of ground control it gives you is often totally trivial and barely enough to allow efficient spacing or placement of a refinery. Trust me, you're better off ignoring those things most of the time unless they're really, REALLY close to a blue tib field or something.

YES,there is nothing interesting around that damned poor Expansion Point that I captured. and what's more, I cannot sell it!! Oh, my little mastermind...

It wasn't me, it was the forums that did it. I guess it must be that whole 'time-jumping' issue.:\

1. Capture Expansion Port
2. Place a barracks or war factory or air field
3. your ground control now expands
4. you now have and expansion base..keep building and placing building that "expand" your ground control...an engie is cheaper than a outpost or MCV.
Even if your opponent captures the port from you .. you still have the ground with your buildings...thats how you use an expansion port.

Now I completely know what it is... By the way...
Where can I download the new maps?(made by players or official both are OK...)

The expansion point is quite useful, its a lot cheaper than a surveyor.

But it's range is crap, and it's usually too far away from the tib fields to be really effective (I have a feeling that EA originally intended it to use the whole ground-control from the power plants/barracks trick to be useful).

Oh!! shame on me... I mistook the mastermind as the assimilator.... Oh my poor assimilators!!(engineers of whatever kind is so healthless!!! instantly die when taking however a small damage!)

Yeah, you can do that, but ever since some structures had their ground control removed (I understand, the reason for that, but I still missed it) it became more useless, you're right, that is the way to use it, but as Ricko said, their range is very small.
You need to micro-manage the ground control given, and it requires time to make it good, time you most often do not have, plus any defences built in that radius are so close to the refinery or whatever you build there that become most useless.
May I ask another question?

Have you tried the maps section in the Den?

um... what map was this on?
I have seen expansion points twice before...
there should be tiberium nearby...
if not, I must have not played the map..

Sorry I forgot!! But i'm sure it's a official map.
the map section in this forum doesn't provide new map download, does it? I cannot find...:( It's all discussion about map editing...

no, not in the forum, just go onto the site cncden.com...
here, ill give u a link to the site and one of the map download sites...
cncden.com (http://cncden.com/)
FeaturedMapSection (http://cncden.com/cnc3maps_featured.shtml)
if u choose teh cncden link, then click c&c 3 files... then choose one of the map centers...
and then if u don't know how to, look into the part where it talks about where to put the files...

I know that certain buildings have had their ground control removed..but not all of them..
1. Baracks
2. War factory
3. Air Field
4. Refinary
5. Crane
all the above still expand ground control. I could go into scenarios but I will not at this point..I know the radius is small...but consider what you spent to get the point and consider what you can do once captured. In a 2v2 match you can now build in your opponents base and or ground control..think of the possibilities there...each of you have four ground control structures qued..then one of you captures the expansion point...then BOOM..instant base expansion with static defenses (if qued up as well) .. all this for a price of an engie...pretty large return on a $500 investment.
Useless.. I THINK NOT.

um, a barracks does not give ground control, it is a cheap structure that Ea made sure to stop basewalking, spidering, etc...

Exactly, hopefully EA will increase the range on that building in the next update by maybe 0.5 to 0.7

Yeah, that would be a good idea all round. It's not like the expansion points in the official maps are terribly close to a starting point anyways.:chin:
