View Full Version : Lion's Weekend Blurb - July 20-22
I assume most of ya that follow the news are already aware of the Michael Vick dogfighting case. You can read about HERE (http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,290061,00.html) if not. Mr. Vick (NFL star with the Atlanta Falcons) and a few other peeps have been indicted earlier this week on felony charges of competitive dogfighting, procuring and training pit bulls for fighting, and conducting the enterprise across state lines. Anyhoot, that case made it's way onto the floor of the US Senate this week. Senator Robert Byrd, the oldest of the senators at 89 years, had a few choice words to say about what Mr. Vick is accused of, and I quote..."I've witnessed one execution but wouldn't mind seeing another if it involves this cruel, sadistic, cannibalistic business of training innocent, vulnerable creatures to kill." Of course, in all fairness Mr. Vick hasn't been proven guilty yet. I have no idea if he did it or not. But me being the animal lover that I am, if he is guilty, he needs to be served a nice helping of justice. I know some view this dogfighting thing as a sport and believe it to be an ok thing to do. Let the dogs rip each other to pieces. They don't feel pain anyhow, right? I've been around animals all my life. They do feel pain, and show emotions just like us human animals. I sometimes have to wonder who are the intelligent creatures on planet Earth.

Been following this closely on the Sports talk shows. He has only been indicted but it looks like they pretty much caught him red handed. This makes sense now from all the Pitbulls that have been getting out and maiming people. Peeps have been raising them to make money and not keeping tabs on them. As it turns out from what I am hearing that this is a pretty popular thing to do especially in the inner city of L.A. I never would have thought that 3 months ago before all this started coming out about Mike Vick. Truly a travesty that him and his buddies get off on something like this.
You know Don Imus got fired for saying a couple of bad sentences. I wonder if they will demand that Mike Vick be fired immediately?
PETA can't wait for opening day at the Falcons camp. :tantrum:
dog figthing is really unnecessary and cruel to the dogs. Hope he gets a good punishment! Some dogs should be illegal to own like pitbulls and "fight dogs".
Seen some of it in my country to that young guys have to prove themselves or look mean and cool with a "fight dog"

My last job was as a pool tech in CT. I would regularly service Tebucky Jones' (of the NE Patriots) pool. You had to go around the back of his massive mansion (past the ferrari, masarati, Aston Martin and BMWs) and past his dog kennel where he had the MEANEST, craziest, most violent dogs I've ever seen. He told me that one of his dogs ATE THE BALLS off of one of the smaller dogs.
What's up with these football players and their mean dogs? He was a really nice guy though.

It appears that people tend to get more bent out of shape when an animal is savaged than a helpless child. I love animals and I think we as humans don't have the right to use our position of domination as an excuse to kill for sport. But the outrage at a child being harmed is clearly not as loud as when an animal is brutalized.
I am not talking about anyone on this forum. I am speaking of specific and general outcry portrayed in the media.

As an owner of two dogs myself. I am outraged by these allegations and by dog-fighting itself. If Vick and his cronies are proven guilty, then I hope they rot in a jail cell for what they are convicted of doing.
But, really, the larger question is: What in blue hades does this have to do with the Senate? I'm no government expert, but doesn't crime fall under the judicial branch? Do some of the Peta crazies have that much of a stranglehold on the government?!
Really, it makes me wonder why I pay taxes for these guys to sit on their thumbs and hold hearings on something the are powerless to do...and I thought the Republicans were bad with steroids in baseball....

What sets dog fighting and human fighting apart is that in the sport of human fighting (I mean boxing and martial arts) is that the humans are not "born to fight" and also it is not a fight to the death, also humans volenteer to do this, dogs do not have a choice in this.

I hate it when I hear about people doing this. Anyone that does something as heinous as this, torture in other words, should be put to death, in my opinion.

Why do people things like this? This is far from being sport or fun, atleast for normal people... it's a cruel-money-thing they should be judged hard for! Maybe the discussion got into government because the laws have not the bite the dogs have...?! I guess they have to think over?!
