View Full Version : Ponderings on the "Aircraft Carrier Problem"

Apparently, modders are finding it difficult to make mobile Aircraft Carriers (http://www.sleipnirstuff.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=13859&highlight=aircraft+carrier) for ZH. They have tried mob logic (planes can't reload), making the airplanes part of it while it's mobile (if planes are missing from the deck when the carrier moves, those planes spontaneously appear), troop crawler logic (which doesn't recall the planes to the carrier after they have attacked and the planes still can't reload).

Anyway, I was thinking on this and, knowing absolutely nothing about nothing when it comes to modding, tried to come up with a possible solution. Both solutions that I "found" would require that the carrier be either reskinned or completely remodeled to allow for the fact that the planes would be kept below deck.

Solution 1: Turn the carrier into a "mobile bunker" of sorts. When the Carrier is a structure, planes land on it and are sent below deck, where they are stored the same way that units are stored in a Chinook, Technical, or Bunker-less Helix. Once the Carrier converts itself into a vehicle, the aircraft are still stored inside as they would be on any other transport unit, but cannot be deployed until the Carrier converts itself back into a structure. The rearming would (hopefully) take place while the planes are being loaded off of and onto deck.

Solution 2: A variant of the above using Tunnel Network logic and an invisible subterranean airfield (like the Chinese Supply Center in GLA Mission 4 of Zero Hour [the computer forgot to display the ground during part of the C-130's take off sequence]).

Again, I know nothing about nothing when it comes to modding, so both of these ideas may be impossible.

Well I do believe that people have made functioning aircraft carriers by making a block underneath the water and attaching it to the model of the aircraft carrier, what this did was allowed for you to move the block that was under the water and then have the complete functionality of the aircraft carrier on top. This is just something I read, I may be wrong
