View Full Version : Lion's Daily Blurb - Mon., Tues., Aug. 13-14
Most of ya are aware, or at least those of ya that frequent the DEN, that I'm a diehard lover of cats. I give them a level of intelligence a tad bit higher than us humans, and that's from many years of observing their behavior. Case in point. My youngest cat Star is obsessed with venturing into the cupboard door where we keep the cat food and catnip. He doesn't bother with the other cupboard doors, just that one. We tried tying a cord around the handles, but he untied em by chewing and pawing the cord. Last night I place a wooden stool in front of the door, and then went in the room off the kitchen to watch TV. About 15 minutes later I heard the stool being moved, and then the familiar sound of the door being opened, and cans of cat food hitting the floor. I figured I'd let him have his fun. A few minutes later I heard a lot of meowing and scuffling. When I went into the kitchen, there was Star, Garfield, Sheeba, and Sammy. Star had gotten the plastic bowl that contained the catnip I give em occasionally for a treat. He was in the process of getting the lid off the bowl, and of course the other cats all knew what was in that bowl cause a little bit had already spilled out. Star looked up at me and I knew instantly what he wanted. Help in getting the lid off. He didn't have to say anything. His eyes told the story. Yes, it was PARTY TIME! If any of you cat lovers have ever given your cat some catnip, you know what it's like. So I passed out the drugs and they were very happy campers for the next hour or so. Now if only I could train the cats to clean out the litter and feed themselves, I'd have it made. But of course they're too smart to let me do that ya know. :gnarly:

Yep, today the catnip, tomorrow they will be wanting something more. They are well on their way to becoming addicts.:looklive: (They can smell that catnip through the door) If I were you I would keep an eye on the change jar. Before you know it they will be down the street at the local pub with your dime. :hyper: Just having a good old time! (Shootin' pool) Then the only time you will see them is when they just want some grub or they're just sleeping. (hungover) :looklive:

Haha! That's great. There are a lot of animals that are a lot smarter than people would think (I wouldn't say as smart as humans though).
-.- and I am annoyed that I typed out a big long response to the last one, clicked post, and it had been locked while I was typing.

hmm I think I have a way of training ur cats to do just that since my cat is "smart" and my dad got him to stop using the litter box for a very long time now. What you do is hide the litter box somewhere where none of ur cats will go (that might be hard though considering you have a lot of cats) and then put some kitty litter outside somewhere where u don't mind them going and where you know they will be able to notice it then they should start going in that spot instead of the litter box. Worked with my "smart" cat and now we just have to feed him cat food since he drinks water out of the toilet like a dog does:doped:. Hope this helps ya Lion;):D.

Not using a litter box I can understand, but a cat drinking water out of the toilet? Surely you can give that poor cat water from a source other than the toilet. Just fill a bowl with water from the kitchen sink or something.

Interestingly, I always had cats who had some kind of heightened tolerance for catnip. None of them really got crazy while playing with the grass. A bit silly at worst. I had some fresh catnip too. . . That's why I like cats, they are rather unpredictable.

Ya we do and he still insists on drinking out of the toilet for some reason sometimes he drinks out of his bowl but most of the time he will want someone to make sure he can drink out of the toilet.
