I'm trying to work out when it is appropriate to Tech up to Airport then Battle Lab on Heck, Vsing both Soviet and Allied.
No matter what I do, I seem to get Rhino rushed
Should I not Tech at all?

Depends on which position you start. But try this: once you have your war factory, make at it only one miner and the rest only tanks. Keep building ore refineries to get more miners until you have 4. Then get a second war factory. then get an airport, then another refinery so you have 5 miners. that refinery should btw be at the lower cliff. from that point, either make another war factory or make a battle lab. But until you don't have a battle lab, constantly make grizly tanks and nothing else. if u have the money, try to make 2 planes and some rocketeers too and harass with that to keep the pressure by the soviet opponent.
If he tries to rush, don't give him time to rally in front of your base. keep your tanks together and intercept his tanks while they are still one the way. At that point they aren't grouped and that's a perfect chance to kill his tanks one by one.

I'd think it'd be better to make 3 planes then 2, so you can kill a Rhino in one shot.
If the Soviet has no flak when you get AFC, always build 1 rockie even if you build no other. Go attack a power plant or barracks. If he builds a flak then he spent about the same as you did, and you didn't have to cancel tanks.
If you scout his base (which you should) then watch his WF. If his first vehicle is a war miner, go ahead and build a 2nd miner from your WF.
You don't have to paradrop into his base when the drop is ready, since a good Sov player usually is scanning for it and a few dogs and tanks stop it easily. You can use them as defensive fodder if you are facing a likely tank attack. Keep your tanks with your men and then pull the tanks back slightly when he moves in, so your tanks will fire at his but some of his will waste shots on your GIs, plus he'll take some extra damage.
If your tank forces are about evenly-matched, be aggressive and park near his ore patch or near the stretched part of his base to force his tanks to come out farther, THEN you drop your para in his base. Especially watch for times when he only has 1 ore refinery, then really try and put your tanks to threaten some other building and then para-kill the refinery.
Have a pillbox ready early on to pop up by your WF in case he uses the "drone first tank" strategy. Sell it after it kills the drone, and cancel it completely before building it if you have several tanks, or if you (having scouted him) see he didn't build a drone and you're about to get low cash.

that costs alot. It's better to wait with that until you find somewhere period later in the game were you have a bit more money.

it depends on if your playing top vs top top vs bottom bottom vs bottom or random spots.
i recommend playing one spot at a time till u ahve it down. here is a spot 4 building order thats beaten the best sov palyers ;)
its for BvB and if i figure out how to add pictures i can show u it
go
Conyard, pp (build down), rax(build down), ref (build down) make sure to mine gems at beginning. then go warfac(build down) one miner then tanks. afc(build up) one rockie. ref (build down and sell other ref). ref up, another ref up. then battlelab to the right of the very top refinery BAH i wish i had SS
After your fist tank press. and that one rockie will make him build a flak. as soon as u get battlelab get about 5 mirages then build 1 bf(4 ggis 1 seal)
use paradrops effectively by dropping them a little above spot 7 and moving them to kill spot 3's refienry in spot 7 ore. you need to keep on the offensive the whole game.... if you get on i can show you what i mean... hope i helped :(

What'd you do on YR and RA2 aren't necessarily the same thing - teching up helps you more in YR than in RA2, and is also a little bit easier with the build time modifiers slowing tanks down.

It's certainly a YR BO, as he only plays YR ^^.
And like Tony said, keep the pressure on. If u can keep him in his base, u can tech up in peace and kill him at late war.
IMO, the BO itself is not so important on Heck (but still the most important thing). the basewalk on the other is. If you can stick a relative good BO together while u r playing, it's good enough. I myself have 1 basic BO, but ingame I alter it depending on spot/map/side/enemy.

Playing the map from every spot and knowing exactly where to stick buildings to be able to move down one cliff level can help a lot too.

Of course. But if you have a bad position and your opponent a good one, and he's good, you pretty lost.

i agree here. i one mapped heck for the longest time and the only bad spot on heck is spot 7(middle right for u ra2 players)
once i get SS working ill post some building orders and tips fro you guys :P
Edit:
oops i didnt see it said for RA2. my mistake =[
for ra2 as allies its better to mass warfactories then it is to tech.

That would be "The Cave", right? I hate that spot.
You definitely aren't the one guy who one-mapped Heck for the longest time. Eventually I stopped playing that map for just that reason - all the one mappers just knew the map too well. That and people playing TvB which is not all that fair since top has a much easier time getting the gems.

Why is it the best? Yeah you're close to gems, but you can get 2v1'ed soooo easily because you're closer to the enemies than to your teammate.

Cave is a good defendable spot. Cave can hold up the opponents while the teammate either does major damage to one of the opponents or helps the teammate.
