Well, I'm just curious really...
I been wanting to play online now for some time, call me  but i'm scared a bit. (not afraid of losing, just losing in the most humiliating way...)
So, I was thinking, maybe if I heard some other experiences, i'd sober up a bit...
How was your first online match in any RTS? Did you lose? How fast? How come? Did you curse? :flame: Or did you relax and try straight again? Or did you take some time and think about what you did wrong? :chin:
Let's hear it from the veterans in here. (if they dare. ;))
PS
I'm not afraid to admit that i'd shut down the game and leave it alone for a week until I could atleast compete a bit. (cause I will not be able to at first, cause i'm simply not "into it".)

Well, for someone with nub experience, it can be pretty um, devistating without some help, I'd still be playing it If I were good at it...
The main thing is, everyone expects u to engi rush, or go for the enemies harvesters with a good weapon... Sniper matches r overkill unless its just two or three people, then its a learning experience for aiming, get some good vehicles, and ram the enemy, learn some of the ways of talking (team chat, that is always good)....
Edit: WTH, I thought he was takling about renegade....
I go make a post

My first online match in an RTS was in command and conquer red alert 2 yuris revenge, it was a one on one, I was america, he was yuri. It was a bit troublesome at first because it was my first online game, i lost considerably in the beginning but I reagined most of the map later on in the game, about an hour past the beginning of the match. I held the bulk of the map for about another half an hour while building up an assault force inside my main base base, but in an instant he crushed through my external defenses and i had no choice but to send my incomplete assault force in to counter his advance. We met in the middle, machinegun, rocket and tank fire erupted, he used his main tanks to flank my prisms and take them out from behind, within the blink of an eye he had overwhelmed my forces and was crushing my assault force from the back and the front, within minutes he finshed up my assault force and headed straight to my main base, he had about half the power of his main force left and then he used his yuri prime to take over my defenses while his attack force protected him, in another 5 minutes he had taken control over my entire base and there was nothing i could do, defeat was imminent, but i still had time to do a little damage. I had about 30 destroyers, 20 dolphins and 17 aircraft carriers. I sent them all to his main base from the eastern edge of the map. He was so busy planning his assault that he forgot to make any defenses around the back of his base. I took out about half of it when all of a sudden, a message appeared onscreen.
I lost but atleast i took out most of his base before doing so. It was a good match, I accepted defeat and then went onwards to my next match... which i won.

Pretty nice. :)
But since this IS C&C3, I think the match will end as soon as it began... kinda like... some of the Mortal Kombat combo moves.
I'll see this weekend. :happysad:

The first online match in my whole life was on Tiberian Sun. It took me a good 15 minutes to find someone who was interested in taking on an uber-newb. Problem was though that the guy was just interested in taking a cheap win on a heavily modded map that had all of Nod's units building instantly and costing only $1 credit, and no limit on the Cyborg Commandos (who by the way had an absolutely insane movement speed).
Needless to say, I lost before I even got a tech center... but then again, I usually took up to half an hour to get it up anyways back then!:flamed:

My first online game ( Or I think was my first online game) was actually a team battle on RA2. I forget the name of the map but it was modded so it was fast build and have tons of money and almost every tech. I took out one base with a massive wave of demo trucks (built 6 or 7 war factory, set the waypoint at their conyard and built 50 of them) while I was doing this, my ally got disconnected so it was just me and him. I tried the demo truck rush again but he had grand cannons and then he did a massive blackhawk raid followed up with a prism/IFV rush on my base. In the end I said good game and played again. :D

It was on RA2, I don't remember the map. I was playing 2v2.
I knew that most people tank rushed so I figured as Soviets, Tesla Troopers would stop the rush, with some desos to kill fodder or infantry. Later I added Flak Troopers for air protection and Yuris just for general badassery. I figured if he used snipers I could take them out with terror drones.
So I had like 70 infantry units and probably 4 drones and 4 rhinos. Early on a grizzly attack was actually fended off by my infantry. I thought I had outsmarted him by using a good combination of infantry to defend against everything. Then in comes about 25 prism tanks. I was fokked. My ally was not happy.
At least I learned something.

My first online match was wayback on Tiberian Dawn. We were playing Tiberium Gardens and I randomed Nod. I turtled in my base, putting crazy amounts of obelisks at my entrance. :p
I expanded out with MCVs and eventually loaded a Chinook with Commandos. I owned his base then he quit. :p

First online match, Red Alert 1...needless to say I wasn't prepared for the tank production that online players can muster......

Though I have played cnc since about a RA1 came out, my first online game was Yuris revenge. I don;t remember it that well....I think all I did was kill a paradrop with a SEAL and then the game was disconnected...so yea....my first online game was noobd up by some stat lover. The earlies match I remember clearly would be on that 6 player map with like alot of bridges. I beat one guy with like 10 prisim tanks....and then I built like 50 of them to atk the next guy....as I went for his Gap generated base....I looked away for a sec then saw on the radar a big ol blue smear and was like "wtf" next thing I know he has 50 rocketeers razing through my tanks....then my base....then my (get this) turtleing ally who had like 2 base defenses....:wtf:
ha ha I remember the winer's quote "lol noob lol" played it all summer and by July I was winning way more than my share of battles. And now I'v moved to generals......starting all over again with the learning. :happysad:

First match for me was in Tiberian Sun.
Came fresh out of campaign and skirmish spoiled by the AI in the game. I was GDI, and I was against another GDI player. Honestly when I got in all I did a pure defensive turtle, and tried to wall myself in. I felt good when I managed to kill a few of the guys when they came at me head on, but eventually he just came to the area where I was finishing up walling myself in (this was before the patch where we could place down like 5 walls at a time, each had to be put down one by one).
He tried to obviously pump in through there, and did a good amount of damage to my base, but I managed, somehow, to push him out. Instead of trying to harass him while he was weak, I just kept building up my defenses, and eventually he just broke my defenses by spamming GDI bombers, and frying my people with distruptors.

My first online game was probably in Yuri's Revenge. I started out a bit slow, as I usually do (I've gotten quicker over the years.), and it was about two minutes into the game that both my ally disconnects and fifty prism tanks show up at my base.
Needless to say, I don't exactly play online in Red Alert 2 without a friend anymore. The experience completely sapped my faith in the online community for C&C until I found the Den.

You can't get anything close to 50 Prisms in that short of a time, even if playing infinite money noob maps.

First match 3 years ago on yuri's revenge. I had an argument with piscinex and he challenged me (you still know that topic, statalyzer ? :p). I wanted to do some preparation. It was on rockets red glare, teamgame. my team won b/c I had a great teammate, while I actually did nothing else then making pretty bases :p.
Now I look back at that, I can see I've traveled a long way to the point were I'm now: pwning most of the people at YR :p.
