View Full Version : Like To Test My Mod?

Mabey this should go in the modding section but I'm not asking any questions about it moddify, I just want you to test this mod of mine.
I'm working on a mod called Campaign Extra. It allows you to play the old Generals campaings on Zero Hour! I have to modify each map because the camera's pitch & zoom are different in Zero Hour. I've also redone some of the sloppy scenery done by the EA gamers & disallowed rushing tactics in the earlyer missions. I'm also still working on some of the pictures in the main solo play menu. In the main solo play menu, you'll see buttons for the training mission, the generals campaigns, & the zero hour campaigns. Playing the Generals campaings will run you through all the mission in order that they are arranged in Generals, China first, GLA second, & USA Last. The Zero Hour campaings are arranged with USA first, GLA second, & China last, the way there arranged in the regular version. The enemy doesn't know to use the new stuff that came in Zero Hour & it would take me a long time to program all that into the mission, so to even it out, I took out all the stuff that was in Zero Hour with the exception of 2 things. I couldn't get rid of the EMP mines that china can make without moddifying the whole game & I couldn't add the detention camp with multiplayer playable.
What I want you guys to do is go through the campaigns & look for any errors in the maps, map arrangement, stuff like that. If you want, I'll include you in the credits if you go through them all as mod testers. I'd reccamend you go through them on easy, so it goes faster. I'd like you guys to go through it within 2 weeks. Don't worry, this mod won't moddify the hole game, you can just a use a shortcut to access it, you can go back to the regular version with your other shortcut! But it's really not neccary, it doesn't affect multiplayer or skirmish maps.
After you download the file, extract the BIG file from it's ZIP folder & put it into the Command & Conquer Generals Zero Hour Data folder in the "My Documents" folder. It's called "Documents" in Window Vista. Then put the shortcut on your tesk top or somewhere else. But you need to put it somewhere if you want to add a copy to the start menu. If you've installed the Zero Hour directory somewhere elso from the default one, then you'll need to open the shortcuts properties & change the path. Leave the part " -mod CampaignExtra.big" allone.
Let me know if your interested & I'll email you the file.

Ok, Myself, i'm not sure if all this work is necessary since there's a simple ini to enable the old generals campaigns. Anyway i'll give it a shot. U seem to have worked it deeper so i think it's worth a try.
My e-mail: ncthegreat_1@yahoo.com.br
I'll test it asap.:)

ill try it, but if theres gonna be shortcut to this version and the regular version, then just go ahead and remove the nuetron mines and that stuff because you can very easily just switch back to the origianl, the whol point of this is to play the old generals missions on zero hour, right i know what your trying to do but its not too nessisary anyway, madness_man_z@yahoo.com

Yeah, I'll think about that, but I just figured out how to get rid of the mines for each map. But it is really conveinent to not have to exit out of the game to play multiplayer. It would be nice to to modify the Detention Center because why get players used to a new building that they can't use in multiplayer or skirmish? Having a bunch of unit taken out I think is bad enough. Anyway, thanks for the suggestion.
If you guys haven't noticed yet, I did send you those emails & another ones that have the EMP mines taken out (not that anyone even uses them.) & I've worked on some of the maps.
Ok mr Myself. I've played with your mod all the campaign twice and i must say it's good.
Anyway, i think that the option to play each campaign (China-GLA-USA) separately, without to play'em sequentially, should be welcome, but u made a good job.
I also noted u edited a couple of maps. Was it really necessary?
Overall, it was a good work, and i'll keep your mod to easily get back to Generals campaigns from time to time.:)
By the way, any problem if i distribute it among some other players i know from LANs?

Thanks for reviewing it. I would like to have the campaigns seperate but I couldn't figure out the windows in the main menu.
In each mission, I had to modify the camera movement because it's different in Zero Hour. So I thought it wouldn't hurt to spice up the maps to while I did it.
Go ahead & give it to whoever. I'm planning on having it hosted and aviliable to all players soon enough.

Are you gonna put the Zero hour stuff in it and usable by the computer evntually? The missions would be awesome if you did.

Yeah, I know it would be cool, but the AI wouldn't know to use them. So the humen players would get an advantage because they'd build the stuff added in Zero Hour & the AI wouldn't. This makes the games easyer for the humen players to play. It would take me a lllllooooonnnnnggggg time to have the AI to buid the Zero Hour stuff.

And Generals would cease to be Generals. Those old campaigns are for tutorial purposes and for me should be left untouched, like mr Myself here did (in fact, it seems it was exactly his purpose).:|
Anyway, if u Jester want to play the Generals campaigns with ZH options it is very easy: Just put this attached file into your ZH\Data\ini folder (if ini doesn't exist create it) and voilá. This way when u play ZH campaigns u'd be playing the old ones (the file makes the switch). Enjoy;)

No need for the Generals disk. It's ZH that u play. The difference is, just when u play the ZH Campaigns u'll be playing the old Generals ones. But it's on ZH.

Sorry, :happysad: is the attachment C4 made your mod?

sorry for getting off topic but heres a tip if you didnt already know it, you can get rid of the intro movie by left clicking your zh destop icon, and go to properties. in the target box type in -quickstart at the end so it looks kinda like this: "C:\Program Files\EA Games\Command & Conquer The First Decade\Copy of Command & Conquer(tm) Generals Zero Hour\generals.exe" -quickstart
you can have the target go to diferent versions of zh, so you can have the campain mod and regular zh without having to take out the ini files, and the -quickstart makes the transition more quicker. this agian is a way to have the extra featers in your mod to make it more Generals-ish. i realy miss the detention center for some reason:(
and yes i think thats the mod

Whoa! I didn't know that. But what I've done is just delete the EA Logo movie & moved the Intro Movie away.
Sorry, :happysad: is the attachment C4 made your mod?
No. My attachment is not Myself's mod. Myself made something more complex, with camera manipulation and so, and it is playable with the old Generals rules (unlike this ini file) except for the Detention and GLA scraping. Ask him and i'm sure he'll e-mail it (this was the point of this topic) to u.
This ini file i attached was found somewhere among some mods i've taken from a site i can't remember. I've done some simple mods but this one is not from me. I just found it useful and a proper answer to one of your previous posts Jester.
And Daishi, i didn't catch your "obvious" nor the "steal my job" from u Jester.:hmm: I was just trying to make it simply clear.

Alrighty, I get it. :)
and about the joke posts, Daishi said general obvious b/c you used redundancy in your post. you put it in ZH and play old Generals missions but it's in ZH. Or w/e it said, too lazy to re-read. And I said thanks for stealing my job of being general obvious and more of a thing to laugh at myself. Either way, was just a joke, at least on my part anyway, dunno about Daishi, don't take it personally.

I used that "redundancy" purposely. To leave no doubt that as it seemed remaint.
Now i see the meaning of both jokes. I didn't took it personally, just didn't understood'em in the first place. Everything's ok now! Enjoy both mods.:)

Hey guys! What would you think if I changed it so that the solo play menu in Zero Hour would be the same as it is in Generals. That way, players could play any campaign they want. I'll I'd have to do is copy the code from Generals to my INI files for the mod! But note, this wouldn't allow players to the Zero Hour campaigns or the Generals Challenges. But that's okay because I'll they'd have to do it exit the game & play the other shortcut. But that's not the case with multilayer or skirmish, they'd be able to play those without switching version as it has been.
Let me know what you think!

replace the credits with challenge mode?
Me Myself & Pi
09-26-2007, 10:57 AM
Are you suggesting to replace the the CREDITS button with CHALLENGE button? I wouldn't be able to do, I'd have to modify what the button would do once clicked on, which I've tried to figure out, but it's really complicated.
Please let me know what you think about the idea. ;)
