I've been having a problem with my comp for several months now, and it's finally reach a point of ridiculousness. Thing was, I didn't know what the hell was up until now when I just tried to play several games that weren't exactly graphics-intensive these days (Rise of Nations and CNC Generals).
You see, some time ago I tried to update my graphics drivers via the website. It took some time, especially since I only got a -56k modem, but I eventually downloaded it in its entirety and then tried to install the update. It was good and all, until I ran into this notification: "You have chosen to install Catalyst Control Center. The minimum .NET framework version required is 2.0. Please install before launching application. " It had me confused since I had no clue as to what the heck were they talking about, so I eventually decided to go along with the install and deal with that question later... bad idea.
As always once installation is complete, I restarted the comp. But when the comp booted up to the desktop, I got the message that "The application failed to start properly 'xoc-1101010101blah-blah, click OK to terminate the application, yada-yada" as soon as the desktop finished loading. And that's not the worse part...
Afterwards, not only did my comp run slightly slower, but over time I began to realize that I couldn't run most of my games either before crashing due to a bevy of reasons. The biggest one seems to be graphics distortions that slowly build up to a crash, and sometimes just cause a game to be flat-out unplayable due to constant screen resolution changes and boot-ups. The only game that isn't effected is Starcraft and WarZone 2100, probably because they don't use 3D acceleration...
Honestly, I'm 100% clueless as to what's the real cause here. I've checked the official website for tech support, but nothing there seems to come close to what I've gotten myself into. I've even tried tinkering with the program itself, but keep getting the same damn message from the startup no matter what. I've even tried installing the program in different ways, but that seemed to make the damn thing even worse..
ANY suggestions would be appreciated, guys. Thanks for listening to me.
