Hi, there... After playing hundreds of times, I found one thing very interesting. When I load a default map, it could be loaded very very fast.(1-2 sec) But when I load a new added map, the progress 0-97% very very fast. but the last progress costs as much as 15 sec. Who can tell me why. Is the map that new downloaded is very big or complex and the default maps are all very simple??

I don't know the game mechanics but (usuall) it's loading map textures and other things first and then calculating the buildings wich you start with, wich might take a little longer (NOD/GDI/SCRIN).
Maps are always the same, buildings and units arn't ;)
Not sure if you can add scripting to the new maps but that might also be added to the calculation

building I start with??? Is there anything else except the Construction Yard?? Not all the map start with some power plant and refinery but all the map I load is very slow when 97%...

When transferring/loading a custom map, it takes only 15 secs, and you're complaining?

what do you mean? transfer?? Do you mean the default maps are already transferred ones but the new added maps not? Could I pre-transfer those maps in some method and then don't need to wait the 15sec?
Where could I find the default maps? Is it the same in file types with the new added maps?(I mean the .map .xml .tga files too?)If not, how can I pre-transfer to save that transfering time?:)

Oh, you're talking mappacks, not custom maps, aren't you?

The map I spoke of is located in "C:\Documents and Settings\hmily444\Application Data\Command & Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars\Maps", I downloaded these maps all from the map sections here. I've no idea about what is called mappack or custom map.
But I cannot find the default maps, so I cannot tell the difference between these new added maps and the default ones, so I will have to wait that damned 15sec...

Same thing happens to me too, but I've had cases in which I've had to wait a whole damn minute before the thing started!:irked:

Er... My computer is Pentium IV 2.93GHz with 1GB memory. so what about yours?? a litter lower? One whole minute is really too long to wait! can you load the default map very fast while new added very slow?

I've actually got more memory than you do (somewhere over 1.25G). And yes, the official maps load much faster, but it still takes a bit (usually around 10-15 seconds).
Weird, eh?

Weird, indeed. When I launch the game, I almost shut down all the applications. there are less than 20 process program then...
But have you ever found out the difference between the default maps and the new maps?

Why it waits at 97-99% on custom maps is because it is loading and or creating all of the objects scripts etc onto the map using the map.xml and or loading up other files such as overrides.xml, map.bin, map.imp, map.manifest, and map.relo.

but why there no such files loading for default maps??
My idea is they are both the maps, aren't they? so there must be a way to make them be the same. same files and same loading time.

These files are hardcoded in the cnc data maps.big to make the offical maps offical, plus they save online trasfer time by just trasfering the .map and .tga files, all of the player's computers must generate the map.xml. The more objects and scripts on a map the longer u'll have to wait for it to create the file and load it.

Oh I see, so is there a way for common player to hardcode those new maps to maps.big? I mean make the 'new' map 'official'?

Not likely, since that would most likely encourage cheat maps to be made "official" and such.

wrong, it would simply turn into a mod, or rather a new version of your game, it wouldn;t be the offical patch 1.08 it would be your own version of the game with the new added "offical" map in the final big. you would have to know exactly how to do it although, not fully sure atm. i would just wait the extra 5 seconds :p

So, where can I know how to do that? I've got the finalbig tool but don't know what to do...:(

Well, I guess if you just want to play it on your own time against the comp then that's ok I suppose. But if you try to take it online and get it into the official map list, then you're gonna get in trouble with EA for sure, since they probably don't want to take a chance with anybody using it for the wrong reasons.

Just for your information: thats completely not possible for somone using offical version/patch 1.08. ;)

I was thinking the maps weren't cached or something...
Oh, and on another, similar note, has anyone noticed that the load times for official maps are lower, yet they perform not as well when compared to user-created maps while actually playing?
For instance, I can play one of Lion's maps fine, but most of the official maps require me to turn down some graphics or else it turns into a mind-numbing framerate abyss.

That is only because most user created maps are not nearly detailed enough compaired to offical maps, even Loin maps. :p
Hopefuly that will change with the omc4 results, im bored of seeing 1-3 textures blank maps with a 89 degree sloped cliffs..
