Hard drive speed? Internet speed? A combination of things?
Im always 1st or 2nd to load in RA2, but with yuris revenge im absolute last like every single time, it takes much longer. I dont get it, why does yuri take significantly longer for me to load than vanilla RA2??
this takes me back to my original Yuri days before I had TFD.
It took FOREVER to load Yuri (When it took RA2 6 seconds it took yuri 6 minuets)
Do you run TFD or original game?

Hmm, if they just had better computers.... I only play Yuri because its where my friend play, and because I don't like how Ra2 is closer upon the units, map, infantry... and how they don't have my favorite maps...

A simple match in't going to prove anything, first u need people of same or similar skill, and have them fight with different armies...

Usually it's just processing power that determines loading. However, it sounds to me like you're running the original Yuri's Revenge with 2 media drives. You can try a couple of things: copy the CD files to your hard drive or put an RA2 CD in your empty media drive.

Im running TFD on vista x64. It was never this slow on XP.
I have an opteron 170 2.0ghz dual core/4GB ram/7900 GTO, far more than enough for yuris revenge. I would put the CD on the hard drive but im pressed for space at the moment, 15GB free out of 320.

Then stop getting so much porn. :p
Anyway... YR's files will only be an extra 500MB or so.

Yeah as fenrig said its largely your CPU, but as yours is quite decent, its interesting to note that a lot of HDs will get noticeably slower when they get near to their maximum capacity.
My approach is to have one HD just for apps and games, and another for all my files and downloads, and so I can keep the main one (obviously the same as which the o/s is installed) reasonably empty and faster.
As you have only 15gb free of 320 I can imagine that HD is suffering for speed hugely! Try clearing it out a lot, and even without the files from the CD you should notice an increase in speed (in all your apps not just YR).

Well theres 2x 160GB 7200rpm 2mb cache drives. The main one with the OS and programs now has 18GB free, the other with music/moves etc has 30GB free.
Drives may get slower as they get more full, but with 15GB (now 18GB) free it should have enough headroom to operate at full speed. Plus every other game loads the same as it used to, its just yuri thats slow. The yuri loading bar shoots to about 33% as usual but then it sticks there for much longer than anyone elses does. Weird indeed, even if im the game host it does this, im always first to load as the host.

this tends to happen to me too, but only on custom made maps with lots of mods and triggers. If it's just regualr maps i don't know what to say.

TBH thats not an exact rule, just an observation of mine :p
with YR I typically get the same thing with the loading bar, it can be extremely random as to how fast or slow it is loading for me, although normally very fast, but i keep my computer's tasks to an absolute minimum when playing games online!

Sucks when your last almost every time though lol, other people rag on you for it:
"Buy cable soviet u poor piece of crap"
"WTF!!?! Ditch ur 486 communist bitch!!"
"FFS i take dump in time u take 2 load!!!"
"lagger n00b! buy new comp a**hole"
"lawl 56k noob"
Theres a selection of nice and helpful hints people have given me online to solve my slow load problem lol.

Funny thing is, you can load slowly and have a fine connection and not lag the game at all. The people who whine about the person who loads slowest are usually the same people who think moving the connection setting from "Worst" to "Good" will make the game lag less.

Ugh. That gets sooooo annoying. I mean the people changing the connection speed. I found that it may improve tank control, (stuff responds like a few miliseconds faster) but it tends to lag ALOT more in the long run. I have tested and proved this.
Honestly, when it starts to lag, people should DECREASE the speed setting, so you aren't wasting bandwidth trying to improve your connection.

U mean decrease the connection quality, if u were to decrease the speed setting, the game will slow down:rolleyes:

it will :S
connection setting on worst has delay time =\

You'll get that anywayz when there's lag. The only thing that will improve is the general speed, but giving commands will still be under lag. Under a lower settintg it'll lag actually less. You'll not notice then when the lag is rather small, but you'll notice it when there's heavy lag which also delays general speed.

It's pretty simple - with a good connection, the connection setting should be good. With a bad connection, the connection setting should be bad.
This setting exists for a reason. If it was always supposed to be at good, they wouldn't even have that setting.

I always knock it up to "best", every game it starts off on poor and its slow, but on best it actually does remove lag to an extent.
If its anything like the setting on starcraft then putting it on best usually makes a difference unless theres a 56ker or someone downloading half the porn on the internet.

So what do you think the other settings exist for?

It does not. Gamespeed goes faster, but lag does not change positively. It will lag even a bit more, b/c faster speed means faster calculations for the computer and faster connection needed. the computer of the player who causes the lag cannot compensate that and will go even slower.

Hmm i think its hard drive speed that influences the loading bar now. I have a more powerful processor than before and loading in RA2 actually goes slower. But my hard drive now is 5400rpm when before i had 7200rpm.
