C&C Gold on the internet

Is there any way of playing the TFD version of C&C Gold on the internet? If so, please tell me. This game is one of my favorite games of all time.

I think so, you have to apply a multiplayer patch that you can find on the internet (use google), and then I think it only works with direct connection, but I'm not sure.
