View Full Version : Miss-Signed Neg Reps

It's come to my attention that an individual or a group of individuals have been signing neg reps with my name to incite conflict between me and other members. This would probably explain why I've received so many retaliatory negative reputation hits to negative repuation I didn't give out in the first place. It would also probably explain eLdiablo's response to neg rep he received "from me" that I didn't give him:

lol, revenge for what? not being able to touch my rep power? please, as if it meant anything.

I don't think there is anyone on this forum who would actually step up and say that they think I would write something like that. Now I'm not too fussed about the repuation system or reputation hits that aren't signed but writing a comment designed to cause a stir then signing it with someone else's name is just bull****. Could the mods please do something about this? Cheers.

...no doubt I've just given some little cretin an idea.

Double editage: Cheers camel :D

Nothing like a little back stabbing to give you all those warm fuzzy feelings.

Someone needs to grow a set of nuts. If you got something against SL then say to him, instead of slithering around like some retarted snake in his ass....er uh, in the grass.

Iirc i never thought it was actually you Sunny, thats why i put it into the thread. Since i actually received another signed "by you" 2 days earlier, which would have broken the limitations set.

I do however, think its time to make repping public.

I have to disagree: the whole point of the rep system is to vote on who you like and dislike privately, much like an old version of an electorate (only with reputation and points involved instead of power, really). Having that kind of info go public would surely discourage random neg reps and such, but it would also cause some members to feel left out or even that some are playing "favorites" or building inner circles in the system.

It would encourage good posting habits.

the whole point of the rep system is to vote on who you like and dislike privatelyYou're not commenting the person, you're commenting the post. Any exception is abuse of the rep system. :rockbrow:

eL, this is an interesting suggestion, but it sounds like it'll bring social complications. It's worth a try.

It would encourage good posting habits.

I doubt it, as most of the -reps would just be retaliations for a previous -rep, and not have anything to do with a specific post.

Many of them already don't have anything to do with a specific post, I used to have someone hitting me every few days just because he didn't like me.

I do however, think its time to make repping disappear.

Fixed.

Interesting, I viewed eL's rep. (Wow, you have seven pos reps from one person. He wants you).

I know who Repped eL posing to be Sunny. But what would you like to see me do? On my end, I can't see that the person involved has broken any rules, I can public name & shame him, but that will just entice it further.

Signing reps wrongly can be classed as trying to bait a flame... I'll think on it, but post what you think I should do....

Having that kind of info go public would surely discourage random neg reps and such, but it would also cause some members to feel left out or even that some are playing "favorites" or building inner circles in the system.

But there should be no random neg reps. Neg reps should be for posts that make you think less of the peson. And if you think less of the person, it should be ok for them to know *who* actually thinks less of them. I don't think it should go fully public, but I think you should be able to see who gives you what rep...

As for what was done to Sunny: That's low. That's really really low, and if you, whoever did it, don't admit you did so, well, then you are an idiot, really. It's just plain dumb. And you just seem dumber by not stepping forward and just admitting it. That at least would show some courage.

And as for Rolk: You should give that person warning points. It is definately trying to bait a flame, and even though it's not a written rule that signing a rep wrongly, it's still, well, very very wrong. You should not say who the person is, but rather ask them to show themselves. You could even give them the option of either coming forward or getting warnings. Although I'm not sure that'll work, as not getting one warning point out of ten for a member who otherwise behaves according to the rules isn't perhaps a big enough incentive, if you're uncorageous enough to even do that...

(Damn, why do I always go into this stream-of-conciousness style of writing? I can hardly understand my posts myself :p)

If signing reps wrongly is baiting a flame, then signing them at all is trying to bait a flame, the difference being who you think will be the object of wrath if the bait is taken.

You don't even have to sign them wrong to get the wrong person to be flamed. Just don't sign them at all and the other person - repping out of revenge and not for any lack of post quality - will often try and guess who it is and flame that person back.

Whether its flame baiting or not, it has to be impersonation, and thats got to be worth some warning points.
