After two long years I decided to update my gaming comp. Nothing major...just added another GIG of ram. Anyhoot, I swapped out the Corsair XMS for 2 gigs OCZ Platinum. My ASUS Premium Mobo didn't like the ram...doh. I couldn't get the Bios to post. After about an hour of fiddling around, I tried taking out the mobo battery to clear the Bios. Sure enough that did the trick. To put it in layman's terms, the bios remembered the old ram, and thus wouldn't recognize the new ram. I learned afterwards that some ASUS mobos are known for this. I was able to then fine tune the two sticks of OCZ with the gracious help of an OCZ techie. I put the new ram to a very good test. I fired up the C&C3 Worldbuilder Editor. That thing use to take nearly two minutes to load up. It does it in about 15 seconds now. When I exit out of that program, it's instantaneous, and no waiting for my comp to recuperate from a rigorous workout. Isn't technology grand. I figure I'm good for at least another year till I need to build a completely new system. Maybe by then Windows Vista and hardware manufacturers and their drivers will be on the same page.

Amazing what a little boost to your comp can do. You're making me want to put more ram in my comp now.

I tried out my son's 2 GB of Corsair memory on my compy and did the exact same test. I fired up CnC3 Worldbuilder and what a difference! There is only one problem son would not let me keep the memory. I will have to buy my own, ..........rats. Anyways I hope to this before the end of November though.

Lion, aside from Creative Labs and the horrible driver support for Vista, the rest of your hardware should be good to go for Vista. I am running Vista Ultimate right now, and most programs work fine. The only problems are the bad driver support from Creative Labs and the fact I only have 1GB of memory, which may me enough for XP, but not Vista.

Upgrades are an amazing thing aren't they. I remember when I upgraded. My comp went from crap to OMG it can actually do that. Way to go Lion, keep those upgrades rolling.

I am going to wait till the AMD Phenom FX-91 and a dual CPU motherboard to come out to replace my Athlon XP 2200.

My main concern about this FASN-8 system is that it will only like ATI graphics, I like nVidia better, rather have a GeForce 8000 series GPU in my PC

Mind you, the only thing that won't change is that I am sticking with Windows XP for the time being till I REALLY have to upgrade to Windows 6.0 (I hate the name "Vista"), also I am using my current ATX tower to put the new motherboard in - whats the point of chucking a perfectly good tower?
