View Full Version : Lion's Daily Blurb - Friday, September 21
As I mentioned earlier this week, I upgraded my gaming comp, adding some new ram memory (2GB total). I'm gonna grab a copy of the RTS game World in Conflict this weekend, and I wanted to at the very least run the game on medium settings. From reviews I've been reading, you need 2GB of ram to do so, and of course a decent vid card. Hopefully my 7800GTX will handle it. I would love to be able to run the game on max, but it's a never ending fight to keep up with technology, not to mention the big bucks involved to do so. I would have to purchase a powerful DX10 compatible vid card ($500-$600), a dual processor unit, flash my Bios, and install Windows Vista. I'd be looking at about $1,000 to possibly see the game at it's full potential. For a blue collar working man, that's a lot of cash to fork over, ya know. I sometimes think the game developers and hardware manufacturers are in cahoots together. A conspiracy to suck us dry of our money. Guess what? It's working.

We had it on release day at the PX, saw it there after I got off duty. Picked the box up, looked really cool, then I read the requirments.
I put the box down and walked off.

What's up with the server? I start typing and I get a database error and then I can't do anything. :tantrum:
Anyways I have been waiting for that game to come out. You will have to give us your rating on it. It looks really good. It seems like a year ago that I saw the trailer for and said "I gotta have it" I will probably buy the memory I need first before I buy the game though. I have the 7600GT graphics card I hope it will run on that.

I thought that was happening to me because I switched to Firefox...

Lion, your gamebox should be fine for WIC.
I'm running WIC on medium graphic quality at 1920 X 1200. It runs smoothly and looks great in single player. Have not tried multiplayer.
This is much better than I expected as:
-It's on a laptop. A Dell E1705 from Jan '06 with 1.83 Core Duo Cpu, 1GB ram, 667 FSB, 7200RPM HD, Nvidia Go 7800 with 256MB of Vram.
-While playing I run other programs including net connection with VPN tunnel, layered security, IM, down & up loads...all at the same time.
So hats off to the guys at Massive for creating a very good game that runs on modest gameboxes.

All you have to do is refresh a couple of times and you get to where you were going.
Lion, I think your comp should be plenty to play World in Conflict on med settings. Tell us how it goes, and how good the game is.

Yea, I'll let ya'll know how the game plays...or at least my opinion of it. And of course how my comp handles it.

I'm looking forward to getting it, and I have to get a new comp anyway, hopefully an 8800 Ultra and 2 gigs of ram should do it.
