Video Editing Software

I've decided to start 'attempting' to edit and create my own videos.

Does anyone reccomend any decent programs that I can get hold of free ?::Cough::

I made my first today with the simplest of simple Windows Movie Maker. Figue I could do with something better... Suggestions?
