I have played the original on my uncles puter and was interested in finding my own
copy of the game. I have a few questions though...

1. Can Red Alert (the original one) be played and work on a Windows XP or Windows Vista OS?

2. If so, do I need the Red Alert original game AND the expansion pack
to play the expansion pack or just the expansion pack (eg Red Alert:
Counterstrike or Red Alert: The Aftermath)?

3. Can I use both expansion packs at the same time so I get advantages from both packs?

4. Can Red Alert 2 be played and work on a Windows XP or Windows Vista OS?

5. If so, do I need the Red Alert 2 game AND the expansion pack to play
the expansion pack or just the expansion pack (eg Yuri's Revenge)?

6. Anyone know the PC specs for any of these games/expansion packs?

I have searched and found all the games and packs etc just trying to gain some more info.

1: It should, vista might I don't really know, if your trying to buy the original you might be outa luck, I would recommend getting "Command and Conquer: The First Decade" you'll get all the C&C games and expansion packs.

2: You need Exp packs and game to work.

3: I think it just merges all of them together, more units/maps/missions!

4: XP yes, vista once again a maybe.

5: You need original game for Exp pack, I would say get yuris revenge Exp pack cause it rocks offline and online.

6: pretty low, shouldn't really be a problem for low spec users

Roger that.

@kevinator9:
Red alert should run on all Windows operating systems starting with windows 95.

You need to install red alert before installing the expansion packs.

You can install both expansion packs.

You may be able to install either expansion pack first. (Not tried this yet.)

Patches for red alert and it's expansion packs may be obtained from ftp://ftp.westwood.com/pub/redalert

Online shops for this game:
http://www.google.com/search?q=buy+red+alert&sourceid=ie7&rls=com.microsoft:en-US&ie=utf8&oe=utf8

System requirements:
http://www.neoseeker.com/Games/Products/PC/westwood_redalert2/

(By the way, CNC the first decade (http://www.gamespot.com/pc/strategy/commandconquerthefirstdecade/tech_info.html) includes this game. )

You may find support for this game in the "Other CNC Discussion (http://forums.cncden.com/forumdisplay.php?f=4)" forum.

Hope this helps.

I'm not sure. Maybe.

Yes. All expansion packs are like this. Hence the word expansion that means adding on to the origional installation. If it dosen't require the origional game to work it's not an expansion pack, it's it's own game.

Most likely. It probably works the same way the Sims did.

Yes to both.

same as before. yes.

very low requirements. I would imagine the minum system specs for RA1 as such:
1.0 GHz processor,
64-128 MB or RAM
No Graphics card needed.
takes up less than 100MB of space
Keep in mind that RA1 uses the same engine as Tiberian dawn. One of the oldest, and mind you best, RTS games ever.

RA2 isn't much more demanding
1.5 GHz processor
128-256 MB of RAM
Again, No graphics card needed
Origional takes up about 700 MB of space
RA2 uses a slightly more demanding engine. I'd say mainly because of the introduction of 3D units.
5: You need original game for Exp pack, I would say get yuris revenge Exp pack cause it rocks offline and online.

Yuri's revenge is the only expansion pack for RA2!

2. The expansion pack adds-on to the game you already have, it won't work as a stand-alone.

3. I think so, but I'm not sure. I have Aftermath but not Counterstrike and I think you had to use the Aftermath disk to get the Aftermath units/maps/missions. Not sure if Counterstrike is the same way, but if it is then you couldn't use both disks at once unless they added some other feature along with it.

4. Definitely.

5. The expansion pack adds-on to the game you already have, it won't work as a stand-alone.

Not sure about 1 and 6 but it looks as though the specifications are taken care of.
