View Full Version : Lion's Daily Blurb - Mon., Tues., Sept. 24-25
World in Conflict, I have you now. One guess what consumed the majority of my time this past weekend. If I had to sum up the single player missions in a few words, it would be a 'glorified chess match'. Depending on the mission at hand, you have to pick and choose your units carefully. No resource gathering or base building either. Just action and plenty of it. At times it is very intense, with little room to stop and breath. The graphics, effects, camera movements, etc. are all spot on, but where this RTS game really shines through is the storyline. It's what truly elevates this game above just about any RTS game I've played in the past where the single player campaign is concerned. I love my base building still, but this was a refreshing change from the norm I'm use to. On Sunday evening I finished up with the last mission, and was left with a feeling of great satisfaction. I had been thoroughly and completely entertained, and that's all one could ask for in a game. Of course, there's still multiplayer online to check out, and I'll probably do some practicing against bots before I team up with other players so I can get use to the different roles you can play as. I do highly recommend this game. The campaign alone is worth the price of admission.

Thanks for the tip LION, but what kind of rating would you give it? :chin:
On a scale of 1-10.
I picked up some free memory yesterday, it is only a gig of 512 DDR2 but it really helped out. I should have the demo for WIC today. So I will definitely give it a shot. :hyper:

Rating...hmmm, I'd say 9.5/10. The fun factor and replayablility is real high. Very well made game. Playing the missions for me is like watching a movie, and being a participant at the same time. Very compelling game.

Thisworld in conflict game seems a lot like teams having the same units but having the same kind of units but just in different quality.... what else does it have?
(note: ive only looked at the unit pamphlet of a friend and each team of the 3 (soviet, Nato, and US) have the same unit, one of each level of commando, artilery, transport, scout copter, rocket soldiers, vehicles, etc...)

..... that's because they're supposed to... The teams are not there to provide unique units and special Tactical Aids, and although there are a few differences the main point of the teams is to drive the story line, and to simply provide teams for multi player and skirmish.Thisworld in conflict game seems a lot like teams having the same units but having the same kind of units but just in different quality.... what else does it have?

It's pretty much modelled after the actual Cold War units the sides had, so the Main Battle Tank for instance was M1 Abrams for the US, Leopard for NATO, and T-80 for USSR.
Then in Tactical Aid, the Soviets have the Fuel Air Bomb and the US has the Daisy Cutter.
Although the units are all equivalents of each other, by using them correctly, repairing too, you get Tactical Aid points to spend on anything you want, from fixing bridges, to radar scans, to repair unit, all the way up to Carpetbombing and Tactical Nuke.:)

World in Conflict truly is an amazing game. I pre-ordered the Collector's Edition, and it was worth every penny. Add me to your buddy list when ya get online, Lion, the screen name is "EvilViking" of course. :)

Well, what do expect man? It's practically modeled after a real life army: of course some identical units are going to appear here and there!

Thanks for the gallery, I will have to share that with my friends who are fence-sitting and won't get the game for some Co-op with me.:(
The bots are fun but it does get lonely.

Well I gotta admit the story line is great and more believable than the floating blimps floating over Washington DC in Red Alert. :hyper: Love the artillery and bunker busters. Looks great! I will have to upgrade the compy to run it at higher settings though. I will need a new graphics card and faster memory.
Later Parker!

I downloaded the demo, I've started the tutorial & the single player mission, but my comp freezes after about 20 minutes in the game but the sound continues in the back, have to reboot. I'd probably buy the game if I could run it...Anyone having issued with it?
My System:
Athlon 2700+ XP
Asus A7N8X Delux mobo
1 GB RAM
SoundBlaster Audigy 2 sound card
BFG Tech 7800 GS OC 256MB AGP vid card (latest forceware)
500W Thermaltake Purepower Series 2.0 ATX 12V (brand new)
(had a 310W Antec that I just changed, to run WIC. I tought it would do the job but apparently not...)

Are you running it at medium settings with all the current drivers? My sys is kinda like yours, but have 2gigs RAM. I get a crash every 20 mins on high settings, but when I reduced it to medium I haven't had any crashes and it still looks terrific.:)
If so post your issue at Massgate.net under bugs those guys are really good at getting back to you. Their motto is that everyone should be able to play the game.

It does not always mean u can play it. This comp is not supposed to be able to play BF2 but it does. And other games that it should be able to play, it can't.

That's true, with all the variations of computer hardware nowadays it's pretty hard to give anything concrete, but it works pretty well for me so I thought I would share it.:)

In name only. With the exception of a few units (such as heavy artillery), they perform the exact same for all practical purposes.

A pity. I was hoping that they would try to make the units at least behave somewhat like their real-life counterparts...:\

There's a bit of confusion here. While all three factions retain the same basic unit types (Heavy Tank, Scout Chopper, Anti-Tank Infantry, etc), each faction's units perform like their real-world individual counterparts.
For instance, the Tank Buster tactical aid for the USA calls in an A-10 Warthog with it's 30mm cannon, while the USSR's tank buster calls in a missile-toting SU-25 Frogfoot.
