Recently, i've been playing with the idea of creating a "mod template" for Tiberium Wars.
This template would basically make changes to the game that are common to most mods... or in some cases, if the mod team had the time/expertese, they would implement them...
For example, if we look at the mod Cold War Crisis (which for ZH), you'll see that their helicopters move about realistically. I am confident that any modder would love to have those effects in their mod (though it is tricky to get right which puts alot of people off).
Another example is code that allows infantry to call in artillary/air strikes, close to their locations... yet another idea which I imagine most modders would want to have.
I am aware that if to much is added then mods may lose there sense of uniqueness... but I also think that giving modders a template with most of the basic and a few advanced things done for them would encourage them to experiment in new areas of code... as well as come up with new ideas.
Over time, I could add custom animations (eg, for soldiers firing/reloading howitzers). I plan to take courses at University over the summer to learn this...
The overall aim of the template would be to speed up the production of a mod aswell as to improve their overall quality... so what do you guys think?
