View Full Version : Lion's Daily Blurb - Mon., Tues., Oct. 8-9
In my neck of da woods someone forgot to tell Mother Nature to turn off the heat. This week has started off in the low 90's. That's very unusual weather for October. Couple that with the fact it's been very dry the past month, and I doubt we'll be seeing all those vibrant and vivid colors when the leaves start turning for autumn. I'm not an alarmist, but there might be something to this global warming and polar icecap melting idea. Or maybe we're just going through some kind of weather cycle. I dunno what to make of it. I'm sure mankind has added to the problems along the way with the burning of fossil fuels. When I was visiting the Pocono Mountains this past spring, I saw one of them wind turbine farms that generate electricity. HUGE looking puppies. One standard wind turbine can power about 500 homes from what I've read about them. But they stand around 300' tall with blades that are 100' long. And of course they need wind, at least 16 MPH to operate efficiently. Obviously wind turbines couldn't be a direct replacement for the power we get from nuke and coal fired power generating plants, but is a good supplement at the very least.

We've had nothing but normal weather here in Germany. Obviously warming is not affecting the entire planet, but we're not an island though. :chin:

Yeah Lion, I live about 20 minutes from the windmills in Waymart. Which I think are the ones you're talking about. I wasn't here to feel last week to feel the heat though.....Down in Florida to see if I could get away from the cold weather, but it followed me.
P.S. V|GO will be coming soon

Well LION I think you are starting to get old and superstitious. First of all, weather changes thats why we have weather forecasts. Last year was the coldest winter for us here in SoCal (record setting) and we lost quite a few plants because it was too frosty for too long. (No rain though) :thought:
Secondly, if somebody keeps saying something long enough and loud enough does this make it true? I think we depend upon our cars way too much in this country but whether it can cause global warming is still not a proven fact .....yet. I say yet because that is a lot of exhaust (worldwide) no matter how you cut it. :dismay:
We have a whole bunch of those fans out here, mostly in the desert where it is always windy. The problem with electricity is you can't store it, for too long.

Yeah, it's been like that here in Santa Rosa as well, really hot during the day, but freezing at night. I have to wait for the school bus at 7 in the morning, and it is really cold out here. We're due for some rain in the next couple of weeks, though. Yay! I like rain! :D

Learn to ****ing spell. This is a forum, not a chatroom, so we're pretty nit-picky about spaeling and gramr. Abbreviatins like u, r, Mi, and oct are generally frowned upon here. They're just annoying and they make it hard to know what you're talking about sometimes. Thank you, have a nice day.

It's definitely hotter in our neck of the woods. It's survivable though.
The depressing news is that a ton of Walrus showed up in Alaska, they have moved south because their hunting ground ice has melted and they had nowhere to go.
Too depressing for words.:(

We've had a bit more rain than usual it seems here. Though today it's sunny and warm, Sunday it rained in an abundance that I haven't seen for a while. Same for last Tuesday.
Most people tend to forget those past years and complain about how harsh is being the current year,... every year!
I also believe the influence of all the global warming "idea" but we should also keep in mind that weather varies from year to year in every point of the planet. Let's hope those variations don't grow into real disasters we ofnly see on the news... A little cold is bearable and its far from a real worry!...
And be positive... it may come some good sunny days in the current year.
Well, anyway it's easier to say when one is in a small paradise like Portugal (plz read, only about the weather. Other than that and its not paradisiacal at all)! :D It stills warm by these parts...

As far as I'm concerned consider yourself a lucky feline, Lion!
I find myself wishing we'd had a summer like the ones we had for the last couple of years. Those were hot, sunny and dry. The summer we did have was more typical of dutch summers, cloudy, not so hot and IIRC fairly or very wet. Then again I'm not involved in agriculture.
I should've packed up and gone to south of France for the summer. Maybe in a few years I'll be able to telecommute.
Cheers!
