Instead of providing you some long textual description, I made a little map, courtesy Google Earth...

A ride that was to be a touch under 4 hours round-trip ended up being over twice that.

Enjoy.

Remind me to never take a road trip with you as the navigator. :p

How... how did that happen? :p

(Also: good idea to just use a picture - says more than 999 words!)

I believe that this counts as "taking the scenic route"

There aren't any cities on that map, it must be out in the middle of nowhere - no wonder you got lost.

Not at all, you just can't see the cities. He started in Fayetville (Forst Bragg), where he lives, and headed to Myrtle Beach, a popular vacation spot. Here it seems he took a wrong turn for quite awhile before turning around. On the way back he headed North for lord knows what reason up to Wilmington, a port city (and I do mean city) and then took I-40 west (trust me, in the long run its west) to 95, south back to Fayettville. In that last leg he doesn't go through any major cities (numerous towns though) for awhile, but its one interstate then another, so its rather hard to get lost.

While you were taking that massive detour through Wilmington though, you should have come to see me on Topsail Island! You were probably little more than half an hour away, and I sure could have used some company while writing college essays! (You can actually see it on the map, but not in enough detail for me to show it to you)

How this mess happened...

Inbound: Dad got confused over the mapquest directions, then turned on an exit ramp (7 miles from where we were supposed to be, BTW), which unded up on a couple runs down 17 and 501 (which we shoudnt have turned off of). I only saw directions when we got home, so I though "hey, guess were going the right way"

Outbound: was going to backtrack, but missed the ramp. I went to sleep after I got back into the Trailblazer, and woke up to a bunch of bitching and road signs to Wilmington. was already about half to here, and I really stopped caring about that point until we almost ended up going somewhere out in Bumfuk, Virginia (if there is actually a town called that...)

3 hour (de)tour FTL. Good thing I can enjoy interstate riding.
