Hey all
I know Zero Hour is not that active any more since C&C3 came out but, believe it or not, I was really disappointed in C&C3 even though I've always been a Tiberian series fan so I just stick to ZH which I think is a great game.
Anyways I still play this game with friends, either we team up for a good old compstomp against hard AI's (without spamming Superweapons because that's boring), either we play online against humans. Both are fun to do :)
I like playing with the GLA (especially VGLA or Stealth) but I recently encountered an annoying problem when playing against an AI Laser General: my palace filled with 5 RPG troopers is also my primary stationary defense against incoming tanks since the AI is dumb and always sends his tanks the same way. But that pesky Laserfreak keeps emptying my palace with Bunker Busters thus making my palace useless. The AFG does this too but there it's not a problem since I just build a whole army of quad cannons as defense and I don't need the palace to protect my base.
Unfortunately, even if I place stealth detection near my defenses, my quads are always too late in shooting down the Stealth Bomber and it can fire his Bunker Busters before crashing. What can I do against this? The laser crusaders are too powerful to defend with just stinger sites and scorpion tanks. Please note, i'm talking about a Hard AI Laser general... not a human.
Now I have a second question too and it's gonna sound noobish: I played against a human Tank general a couple of times as a Stealth general. What's the best way to stop that early Dragon Tank rush? That thing burns down my base in no time... and please don't tell me to go on no-rush servers because rushing is a key part of this game. Also, is rushing with 3 or 4 quad cannons to kill the supplies or war factory/arms dealer a better rush than sending a TechTerror? I personally think the TechTerror is devastating when microed correctly but I haven't really tried the quad rush trick.
What's the best overall strategy for stealth general against a tank general? Because obviously, his tanks >>> my vehicles unless I have hordes of filled Battle Buses, which is late game.
Sorry for the long post

I can answer the second question. You counter Dragon Tanks with Hijackers. You can even catch them fresh out of the war factory on Tournament Desert. Instant win.
Also, you basically counter everything he has with defenses and quads + RPG, but you NEED to use technical tricks to take down his bigger mixes/ Like plow into his ECM/OLs with terrorists or hijackers. The most effective way to blunt him is with Jarmen Kell on his overlords, with a rebel ambush standing by to knock him out. But generally, you want to avoid his assaults altogether and instead assault his base with battle busses while he's distracted on the other front. GLA's greatest advantage is its ability to fight and build up everywhere at once, make sure you use this advantage.
Avoid making buggies unless he has no chance of getting his propaganda center. (meaning you neutralized both his dozers early on with a techRPG or with the terror cars) Because ECMs will make buggies next to useless, and the China airforce, which he always has as an option, will rend them in moments.
Remember that gattlords detect stealth. If you see one in a china mix, get your hijacker out of there, its gonna get raped.

Ahhh of course the Hijackers! I forgot about these! It's a good way to stop early rushes since the opponent rarely has any stealth detection in an early rush.
Thanks for the advice.

It will probably help to put something in front of your palace, so the stealth fighters will shoot them instead. Try keeping your quad cannons in front of it. I don't think their really vulnerable to them
Just to add: the techterror is also very good at countering Dragons. While the Dragon heads to his goal (the fire-on-the-move on the dragon is pretty useless), run near it with the tech and unload a terrorist. byebye Dragon. A bike (handmade by switching a terrorist) can also make scrap out of the dragon.
Anyway, the hijacker is the proper response.

Tech Terror is better vs buildings for sure. Be sure to spread out tunnels across the map so you can pop units out to counter his attacks.

Actually the hard counter to Dragons is Quads, Hijackers are just a very good second option.

Thanks for the replies. I'm gonna try out both. I think the hardest part with GLA stealth is spreading your base and keeping pressure on your enemy which requires good microing and constant attention. I'm probably gonna get beaten the first games, but I really want to learn to play with stealth: it's more challenging
And nothing is more fun that that "BUNK... HAH!" sound of the Hijacker taking an enemy vehicle :D
I'll post replays of my games this weekend (I'm going to a lan party with friends) most replays are probably gonna be replays where I get totally raped since I'm really new at playing online against humans while my friends are more experienced but hey, I can only learn from them.

1st question, i don't really think so. i guess u should rely on mobile defence in this case then
2nd question. quad cannon. because hijackers will have a hard time catch a dragon tank. but pretty much vs china. u need to build tunnels around maps. on tournment desert a tunnel at both flank is a key because u can harass his base and put u on a offensive side. u also need to constantly harass his supply.

An important part of the GLA game is spreading tunnels. Micro and attention are just the core of this game, also! So get used to it!:p
Playing with stealth, i agree, is the funniest of the GLA (for me he is more GLAish, sneaky and weak.)
